I wish he were( Rubber Viper), My son took the pictures about noon, he was near the house then swam the pool in and out of the skimmer and then into the bushes. I have assigned my son the job of identifying him. We have a canal about a 100 yards from the house so he could be a Water moccasin, I am sure someone here will come up with something. I have more pictures but how many do you need.

A close up, or higher resolution, with the coloring. Also, need to see the head a little better. Doesn't look like a moccasin. Can you post pic #1 in full resolution?

Water moccasins are very dark and travel by moving side ways. They also have diamond shape heads. All your poisonous snakes have flat wide diamond shape heads. Atleast that was what I was always been told, I cannot see the colors to well but I can see the pattern on the snake. It looks like water snake.

Very wierd. We just arrived at our cabin and our neighbor had seen in their yard a cottonmouth. Sort of looks like that to me.
But my position is simple with all snakes - less is more.

You obviously don't use enough chlorine.

I don't use any it is a salt water pool, well the cell makes the chlorine so maybe I should kick the power up a notch. I guess he got out so fast because the the salt water didn't agree with him. Dose make a good case to keep your water clear.
I am thinking corn snake.

This is true of pit vipers, of which rattlesnakes belong. This is not true of all poisonous snakes. For instance, the coral snake has a quite blunt, rounded nose, but is very poisonous.

We had a 4' California Kingsnake we caught at the house here a couple years ago. We kept it in a terrarium for about a year as a pet and it became very tame...almost sweet!

Fyrzowt is right. Here's a rattler who showed up while I was mowing the lawn last week. He had been eating chipmunks in the stone wall. I took him for a ride about a mile and a half back in the woods, near a known den, and released him. Not the best picture, but hopefully you can see the jaw is much wider than his "neck".

Thank you. I don't want to destroy a animal out of my ignorance, I really appreciate you response and information. My Miniature Schnauzer feel better now also. I can now tame him and have him patrol around the Airstream to keep the mice out.

Here in the Southwest we have more then our share of snakes. My job takes me to some very remote desert locations and I am always on the watch for these guys. When it comes to my swimming pool, I perfer a large yellow lab (Gracie) over any snake.

Richard, great pool great dog. I think that is called the "Save the Baby Leap". You have to love em. My MS wants to be in the pool when we are in the pool he runs around the edge barking. Schnauzers are not known for their swimming ability. I will grab him and put him on a float which calms him down. He is now within a couple of feet of his family so all is ok.
CanoeStream my niece has a Jack Russell Terror. The list of things this dog has done is to lengthy to document. Most two notable are he ate all the connecting cords for their computer system, and he ran through a glass door with a trip to the vet for stitches. Everyone in the family loves him he just is misguided sometimes.

My other two dogs do not use the pool. We have taken them in a few times to teach them where the steps are. Bandit (16 years old & 15 pounds) has fallen into the pool a few times and has always swam her way out.
