It's not a big deal, but on the drop, be aware because of the corners as you come down the Smith River are rather tight.

Here East of Stockton, we finally got the electrons flowing again...after 30 hours in the 'dark'!

With our 'casa' out of order - we spent last night in the AS, all cozy and warm - used the Honda genny to power up the Sat TV and mixed up a couple of G & T's before the ice cubes melted...

What a nasty storm! we lost the shade cloth covering over our back patio - flapping in the 'breeze', along with some of the South forty's fence...

Sure glad things have calmed down again....!

I dumped 12.25" storm total out of my rain gauge at home here in the Santa Lucia Range West of Atascadero, CA... 60-70 mph winds, trees uprooted all over. Power was out for 12 hours. Mining Ridge, in Big Creek, on the Big Sur coast got 23.35 inches of rain, the most ever recorded for a single storm in October.

My Airstream is totally dry inside!

I got hit here in Boulder Creek pretty well. 10.55" in 24 hours. No damage, just some ruffled chicken feathers. I don't think we've started off with such a powerful storm since '94 or '95.
My big concern with my house and Airstream is falling trees and limbs. A 200' fir tree will do a lot of damage when it falls, or a redwood limb. I had one penetrate 1" cdx plywood flooring in a treehouse earlier this year. It punched a three inch hole through it.
I really like a big blowing storm like this was.

Rich

Rich,

I was thinking about you guys yesterday when they showed how much rain was coming down. Glad there was no real damage this time. Wasnt there a big event years ago.. "Love creek" or something like that. Lots of flooding..

I didn't put out our rain gauge yet but Pollock Pines up the road reported 3.60" something. It was the wind that was a concern. I had to lash the portable garage that's over the convertible to the Airstream after it shifted (slammed) into the car. This morning I checked it out and found only some paint transfer that can be rubbed out. I'd been sick if the new top of just a few weeks was damaged. The car is getting body and paint this winter....maybe I'll wait until Spring .
Neil.

Mindwrecker: The Ben Lomond, Ca / Love Creek Mudslide Disaster of Jan. 1982

This is a blog about the Love Creek episode. My father-in-law was a Mercury news photographer at the time and was up there taking pictures. He never has shown them to us.

I just checked the LADWP page for rain readings and their closest meter to me (El Segundo) only got 0.75" (<1") of rain from that storm.. Some other areas indicate no precipitation (out in the high desert or their gage was broken?).. Good to hear the north got the majority since it will be put to better use up there than down here..

Thanks for the link. My sister lived in Boulder Creek at the time. It was quite the ordeal.

Just got to Cresent City a couple of hours ago, thanks for the advice. Curvey but BEAUTIFUL drive from Grant's Pass. I did top off in Grants Pass, I paid $2.69 there and it's $3.23 for regular here. YIKES!

And Finally...

Since our local newcasts started off last Tuesday evening with "STORMWATCH-2009."
We live in Point Loma, on the San Diego coast and we didn't get one lousy drop of rain! I couldn't believe it. After watching what went on in the Bay Area and Central Coast.
