Hello all! We have just moved to Staunton, VA (24401) after our 2 1/2 year long, 35k mile "where do we want to live?" tour in our 1965 Safari. I want to keep it forever, but finding a place to store it is difficult. We bought a house downtown that has no place to park it, and all the local storage places are either absurdly expensive, or way too far away. I'm hoping someone out there in the Airstream community lives nearby and has a spot I can use.
-Happy to pay a year/6 months in advance
-it is insured
-I won't work on it on your land (unless you want me to...)
Staunton is a beautiful little town in the Shenandoah Valley. A good choice. Great camping in the GW NF just west of town (Todd Lake and North River). Check Mt. Solon CG northwest of town at Natural Chimneys. Open year round, they might have good rates for storage and you can always go up there to camp.

Welcome to the Shenandoah Valley. We're just down the road from you in Lynchburg.
We have the same problem in that we're in a gated community and there are rules and regs against having a trailer in the neighborhood. One day, while riding around town, we saw a repair shop with about 15 RV's parked out back in a large flat field. We stopped in and asked the owner if he had an open space and what it would cost. Turns out he is related to our brother-in-law so we got a pretty sweet deal. In addition to what rseagle proposed, drive around and keep your eyes open for a similar opportunity.

seems to me like I've seen alot of trailers with tags in the lot just beyond rule rv on greenville ave (rt 11 south) have you tried them? Also the KOA in Verona seems to have many units parked there in the field to the left of the entrance road. i'm just not sure of secutity at either place. seems like a vintage stream might draw extra attention. ditto on camping at natural chimneys. they have some of the biggest sites i've seen.
Good luck, Mike
Thanks for the warm welcome to the valley, everyone! The storage problem has been solved! Now, I just have to get myself to move forward on the endless number of "little projects" I have planned for our Safari...
we have a local airstream unit WBCCI and the membership person is Martha
Makel, over across Afton Mt...her number is 434-361-2500, should you like to have information, give her a call....
Hi 65Safari .
Would love to hear about your 35K, 2.5 yr adventure. Stop in sometime to chat... I'm one of the pharmacists working at the Kroger here in Staunton. If you see my '08 Safari 19 in the parking lot, then I am around. (My home is in Charlottesville, but I work over here 10 days a month, and live in the Airstream. Life is good !)
Cheers
