St. Augustine Campground Recommendations?

I'll be going to the St. Augustine Florida area for the first week in February. Any good campgrounds that might be possible to get into this time of year?

Paula

I highly recommend Anastasia State Park. We spent a week there in November. The Coquina loop is probably the most desirable as it's much closer to the ocean, but the other loops are nice too. A lot of oak trees and undergrowth give privacy at each site. Off subject - O'Steens restaurant is between the campground and St Augustine and is a local favorite - they don't advertise to draw in tourists.

Conch restaurant is good too. O'steens has a long line/wait sometimes. Lots of good places along A1A.

If you have a 4X4, you can cruise the beach, starting at Butler or Crescent and go south quite a ways. Matanzas inlet is a cool place you can fish along there for flounder. Go further south and hit Marineland and see the dolphins!

We stayed at the KOA in November...I can't say I'd recommend it.

We did enjoy the Lighthouse although we didn't actually climb it.

Anastasia recommended

Anastasia State Park is really convenient to St. Augustine and occupies a lot of prime real estate in the area. We are currently in site 130, and rode our bicycles into the downtown tourist area earlier today .

Send a PM to Devoman. He has friends that live next to one of the state parks and he has spent much time there in the past.

A few years ago I spent a winter at Ocean Grove in St. Augustine Beach. Very nice.

We've been to Bryn Mawr...very close quarters and mostly seasonals. But the sites along the dunes are nice and you are right on the beach. Pool is a hike from the beach sites...but a nice pool. Friendly and helpful staff.

SNOW is a four-letter word!

And the weathermen locally are predicting that Virginia is going to get the classic "February Dump" which hits about once every 5 to 10 years - up to 7 inches. This is on the eastern seaboard, where snow rarely occurs and normally melts within one day.

I decided to take off tomorrow as early as possible to try to get too far south for it to hit me. For any of you wanting to get into Florida's state parks - well Anastasia apparently has every weekend slot booked for the next year - and Faver-Dykes has nothing until March.

I ended up Choosing Ocean Grove.

HI-HO SILVER - AWAY!

Paula

I've stayed at North Beach Camp just outside St. Augustine a few years ago - it was OK. But sitting here with the winter wind howling all around, I'd take anywhere in Florida!

The site was decent, but there were lots of seasonals and the wifi didn't work so well.

But, again, it was Florida. Have a safe trip and don't forget to send a postcard with palm trees and flamingos on it!

The site looks great right on the water. Was that a beach lake or tidal pool?
