Spouse Threatening to Sell Airstream?

If your spouse is threatening to sell the Airstream....just let them spend the weekend in someones SOB camper.

As gas prices rise and new projects take precedent over the continuing project of the vintage trailer, the husband often torments me with threats of selling the Overlander. Then he thinks....lets just buy some land in the boonies on top of a mountain somewhere and park the old girl. But once we are back camping in the trailer all of these thoughts fade away into new talk of polishing, riveting, and carpentry. He secretly loves that trailer and all of the work that goes along with it.

So this weekend our friends invited us to stay in their camper on Sandy Neck Beach. Woohoo! We love going out there in the truck, but to stay overnight....what joy. Jim's latest thought has been to sell the Airstream and get a camper so we can camp on the beach.

Waking up on the beach is an amazing thing. Sipping coffee in your beach chair and watching the sunrise is quite addictive, but not addictive enough for Jim to buy a camper. There is no place to put anything. No passing room. No place for dog to not be underfoot. Then there is the question of where to sit baby. Kitchen and bath just don't cut it. There is nothing to fix. And the his list goes on.

So now what does he want? Maybe a vintage moho that we can convert into a 4x4. I think Balrgn's tiny Argy moho would be just the thing.

If you really want to push the envelope and do some 'extreme' camping, look into the 'Sportsmobile' line of b-van conversions. They have been using Fords wit a 4 X 4 conversion and have just added new 4WD Sprinters. they really do a nice job with them.

On our recent trip to Wyoming, we saw this Alaskan truck camping rig. It was really neat, and able to get into some real back country. We'd like to have something like this for our TV. It would give us the option to temporarily store Lucy at a campground and take off for a couple of days in the real boonies.

I ordered one of their brochures. It appears that they everything except the shower. Go to Camper, The Alaskan pickup truck camper RV sold by Alaskan Campers, and you can see all of their models, floor plans, and interior photos. They appear to be very well made and are, accordingly, pretty pricey. We are really looking at one of these to be part of our next TV. the possibilities will be endless.

Here's a couple more photos that we took.

For another approach to "extreme" RV-camping, you might take a look at the EarthRoamer website (www.earthroamer.com). Their XV-LT model is based on a Ford 550 4WD chassis and is truly self-contained. Attached is a picture of one.

My first reaction to the title of this thread was..."Sell the spouse!"

You would have to be very, very skinny to sleep in that over-cab berth.

They are a very well built unit and the larger ones are on the heavy side too. My uncle had one for probably 15 years and sold it for close to what he paid for it.
