Spiders in my Argosy

Whats the best way to get rid of/keep out pesky spiders?I've looked at Raid type sprays,but don't want to damage carpet,wood finish,etc.Last night,pulled the covers back and there ran a spider cross the bed .I've seen about 5 of 'em since the Argosy's been out of storage/in use.Gotta put an end to this spider problem! Hi wander-one -- "They" (Who are those guys anyway? Probably have eight legs...) say that the world will be inherited by spiders after the missiles fly. My Argo never had mice until I stored it up against a woodline. Put 'em close to the problem and the problem comes to you. Is there any chance you're having this spider problem and storing on pavement too? I'm wondering if you wouldn't have more spiders for storing out in the yard, on gravel or Class V.

Ortho Home Defense works well in and out. Spray anything touching the ground outside including power and water lines. See their FAQ section about being nonstaining. Good luck - i hate spiders.....

Well it may sound like an old wives tale but, It worked for Mom.HedgeApples are the ticket I gave my Mother a few for her basement and she said it solved the spider problem.I'm really not crazy.Robert

OK, I'm stupid. What are hedge apples? Anything like road apples?!?!?

Yes bertro -- my grandma in Texas always used these. We even see them occasionally in our produce aisle up here in Minnesota. They're warty and bumpy looking -- about the same color as a Granny Smith. Also called Bois d'Arc or Osage Orange. They aren't for eating of course!

Well Scott they may be the same thing as a road apple.You do see them on the road from time to time,They are green with a rough texture and are about the size of a softball. We have always called them hedge apples as the tree mostly grows in hedgerows.

Hello Bob,The Argosy was parked on pavement while in storage.It's now in a c/g on the grass w/a little gravel.I read some where on the forums 'bout Bounce sheets,Imay try that & Ortho?....Brian

I like the hedge apple idea, know where I might find some? Do they have an odor? I HATE spiders and they look like something one might use as a decoration as well as a spider deterant. Are they poison?

I have any amount of those that anyone who wants one (or more) just ask. Pay the postage and they are yours. All the old timers here swear by them. Jeeze!!!....I am rapidly approaching that old timer window....what will I swear to?

For those who can not get Hedge Apples I have always used Moth Balls in the water heater and refigerator burner areas to keep spiders out of the burner tubes.

In these smaller areas I put 1/2 dozen moth balls in a plastic bag, seal the bag and then poke a dozen holes in the bag with a pin. The reason to seal in a bag and then poke holes is to extend the time it takes the balls to evaporate. The slightest smell seams to keep the spiders out. Replacing the moth balls after a year or more.

Applying this idea to the larger area of the inside of your trailer may take a bit of experimenting.

Bounce sheets or any fabric softner sheets are reported to work for most folks in dealing with pesky insects. They work so far for us and make the various cabinets, drawers and other locations smell nicer than moth balls would. Maybe the outside locations like the water heater and frig niches would work best for moth balls if the smell is too offensive for interior locations. Of course, these tips only deal with repelling insects not killing them.

I was told by an expert, the only way to kill spiders is to spray them directly or step on them, aslo you are always within 6ft. of a spider at any time, no matter where you are. Marvin

I don't know, someone told me if you head far enough north, you Canadians don't have many spiders to speak of. That's my solution, head for Canada!

We use Raid foggers with good success, both on the 310 and on previous MH's. The fog gets into all the crevices and works on many different types of insects. Be sure to open all internal doors, drawers, cabinet doors, etc. And TURN OFF ALL PILOT LIGHTS before using!

Thanks Marvin, thats just what I needed to hear. Its just too creep, I try not to think about it. Robin, i would be glad to pay the postage, I will take 4 please. Moth balls I have heard also, will also work for snakes. My grandmother use to keep them in the wood pile. I always hated the smell, dont think I want the Silver Watermelon smelling like mothballs, eeewww!

Hey guys,thanks for all the ideas I got some Bounce sheets,placed 10 at different areas.'Bout ran me out .Hope my nose can take "Bounce" better than itty bitty spider nose's! Do spiders have noses? I know they don't need glasses with all their eyes! Anyway,I'll try some moth balls round the OUTSIDE too.See what happens next.....Brian

I will have to admit, I seen more spiders when I lived in Florida and Arizona than I do here.

Reference the Bois de arc "fruit" used as insect/rodent repellant. They are in full production right now. Any country road here in north Texas has them growing along the fence lines.
