Spam

I recently joined a Ford F150 forum. It is much like this forum. I am sad to say I was kicked off the forum forever after I did what I'm doing now - posted a new thread. The reason they gave for giving me a dishonorable discharge was "spammer." Now I'm 61 years old I am not very tech savoy. As a matter of fact, what I'm doing now is about my limit. I don't know really what a spammer is. I sure didn't know I am one. I remember when spam was something I put between two slices of bread. I'm not complaining about the F150 forum - not at all. I just wish someone could tell me if I'm doing something wrong and what I can do to stop it. I really like this forum and the people who are a part of it and I don't want to mess anyone up. I really don't understand what I maybe doing wrong. It is not intentional. I hope I have not caused anyone any trouble.

Spam is a canned meat product, forever immortalized in song by Monte Python and loved in Hawaii...

Seriously, spam is unsolicited email, ads, etc. Think of it as the electronic or computer version of junk mail. What you posted here is not spam as far I'm concerned.

So, how many of you have the Spam song running though your mind now?

Chris

I don't see anything wrong with your post. Now, if you posted the same thing in 25 different subforums, that could be considered spam.
Welcome to the forums, anyway.

From Wikipedia:
Quote:
Forum spam consists of posts on Internet forums that contain related or unrelated advertisements, links to malicious websites, abusive language, or otherwise unwanted information.
I'll leave it as an exercise for you to figure out if what you wanted to post on the F150 forum fell into any of those categories. When in doubt, read the "Community Policies" on whatever forum you're on if you don't know if what you want to post is allowed or not.

I can't speak for the moderators on this forum— it's always their call— but I suspect that complaining about the treatment you received on another forum might be considered spam on this forum.

I don't see anything wrong with your initial post. You might want to familiarize yourself with the Forum's posting rules to keep yourself out of hazard.

When I think of "spamming," I think of people posting links to other sites of a purely commercial nature, folks pushing particular products, or offering to sell items or services directly in a discussion thread. There is a handy-dandy classified ads section that you can sell your Airstream related products on, so as long as you don't cross the streams, it should be OK.

Donning my mod hat for a moment....

Sometimes new users are under tighter restrictions than older users on a forum. Many of the forums I've participated in work that way. I don't think I've ever posted on the F150 forum, but I've read some posts there. Did you put any photos or URLs in the thread you posted? Were you trying to ask a question, or sell something, or explain why the sky is blue?

It seems a bit harsh to ban a user for posting a new thread that has no other problems, but not knowing what you posted I couldn't venture a guess as to why they might have done so. I know their action may have left a bad taste in your mouth about their forum, but if you don't think there was anything wrong with what you actually posted, perhaps you can try to contact their moderators and ask why you were banned.

I'm not upset with anyone at the F150 forum. I am sorry if I broke any rules. I posted a question on this forum and it involved my truck so I posted the same question on the F150 forum. I wondered about hauling Kayaks and other gear and my airstream all at the same time. I figure I did something wrong and I don't want to do it again. I copyed my post on this forum and pasted it on the other forum - too lazy to type all that again. I'm not at all complaining about the F150 forum at all. I figure they know what they're doing way more then I do. I just want to be sure I'm not offending anyone here. Surely I did something wrong and I am truly sorry. I'm sure the people involved with The F150 forum are as nice as they can be. I hate that I caused any problems for them. I'm not trying to cause any problems here - I want to do just the opposite. If I'm doing something wrong I want to stop it.

Then, please, stop apologizing!
