An update: in addition to the other things, a coupon book to Gatlinburg, a lighter (works) and a 2003 quarter, plus a wad of scraps of paper with phone numbers. Looks like somebody already cleaned out the good stuff!
Well just to confirm the Visa travel sticker to Baja, Mexico...I found a glass hash (I assume) pipe stashed behind the kitchen sink. When I pulled out the old heater there were all sorts of grubby old sponges, a mouse trap, old matches and such!
