Smile found money in our new trailer

Yep we're all set now, its a crisp $1,000,000 bill from Harrah's casino in New Orleans. No expiration date either. Now time to shop for that giant blue tow vehicle tin hut posted the link to a while back.

This is going to sound hard to believe . . . and I'm sure I'm going to lose my stash of Karma (the real kind) for telling this.

I had my trailer for about a year when I finally got around to pulling "stuff" out of it. I bought it from the man who owned it since 1951/1952. He was quite ill at the time I bought it so I mostly dealt w/his wife.

It had the twin beds in the back w/the small dresser/night stand between. Anyway, I found an old 1 gallon paint can that was under one of the beds. It was behind the Under Bed Storage Drawers so you wouldn't normally or regularly run across it I nearly hurt myself when I went to pick it up, I thought maybe it was stuck to the floor. I tried again and it moved but it was incredibly heavy. I thought maybe it had some old very nasty goo of somekind in it so I didn't want to open it . . . and I was in a "take it to the dump" kind of mood. I struggled to get it out of the trailer and put it in the pile going to the dump. As I continued to work I thought more and more - it was just too heavy to be any kind of paint can sludge, so I decided to open it. To make a long story short the old owners were at my door stop early the next morning to pick up their $500 worth (face value) of silver dimes all nicely rolled/wrapped. I opened one of the rolls when I first got the can open and they were all from the 20's and 30's. Basically I called the "PO" up and said "I think you left something in the trailer that you didn't mean to". They didn't catch on right away, so I said "it's in an old can of paint" . . . long pause followed by "oh my goodness". Like I said they came quickly to get it . . . and I hope they've been able to enjoy it as much as I did.

While doing my pre-spring cleaning and repairs, I found 2 green potholders back behind the oven. If they had been in a little better shape I would have kept them.

Two genuine handmade bamboo poles....

Two genuine handmade bamboo fishing poles from the 1950's, an unopened Scrabble game still shrink wrapped in plastic from the early 1980's w/ a TG&Y price tag, two 1960's girlie magazines with very unattractive women pictured, an old coffee-pot, an old road flare, and a lot of loose marbles (some of which may have been mine)...

A single gold earring under a bed in the back, and a rather crispy field mouse in the 12-volt panel.

Now that we have a "new" coach, an update...

In our Overlander, I found some more interesting things. I found a certified letter to the PO stating his other trailer had been sold, and a cashier's check would be coming his way in a separate letter. I also found a plethora of whiskey bottles, all empty (Awww!), some very old and decrepit silverware and dishes, and a spare pane for the jalousie window. I also found some washers for the galley faucet I had replaced, and a small pack of aluminum rivets.

Upon rebuilding my trailer from a tree incident (long story) I found a snickers bar wrapper under the vanity. As well as lots aluminum dust, saw dust, and a slug of aluminum from drilling the access hole for the shore power.

Tonight Jim was shoring up the upper cabinets above the twins. He couldn't get the wood to fit into place and realized something was stuck, he fished out a foreign coin from 1965. We had to Google it to find out that it is a penny from Finland!

The very brown " Lifetime Warranty" stapled to the closet door. It has the serial number, Burns Trailer Enterprises Inc., and a faded signature that is unreadable. Anyone know if they are still in business? Is my warrenty still in effect?

Oh yeah, and a lot of mummified rodent bodies...eeech.

Do they call it a penny in Finland? Its even older than your trailer. How about a picture of this so called "penny"?

medicine

We found a box from 1971 with an assortment of all the medicines you may need. This promptly went into the trash. It was quite a find, though. And still brand new!

I think they would need to honor it. Are you the original owner?

oh, and then there are these little exclusions:

"This Warranty does not apply to any vehicle which shall have been repaired or altered outside of its factories in any-way so as, in the judgement of the warrantor, to affect its stability; or which shall have been subject to misuse, negligence or accident; or which shall have been loaded beyond the factory rated load capacity.

It makes no warranty whatsoever in respect to tires, tubes, rims, signaling devices, axle and wheel assemblies, brake assemblies, refrigerator, heating stoves, ranges, electrical fixtures, water heaters, or other trade accessories, in as much as they are generally warranted separately by their respective manufacturers."

Jim & or Kathleen ~

That's cool. I wouldn't have recognized it either. A PO have in-laws from Finland? Hard to believe your A/S went to Europe but suppose its possible. Thanks for posting the pix.

Hello bimi,

That medicine box is a cool find , especially all new .I found some items like that in our 60 tradewind. A box of brand new bookmatches all duds now for the most part from the 60s .The scary part was that they were behind the small aluminum heater ducting ,back to the rear bath ,you coudnt see them, I was feeling back there ,any way right next to the backside or the furnace!! Lots of vintage gas mantles ,wheel seals, and all the faucet handles ,the round type .Great penny uberlanders I didnt find any cash .

I found some cool Guatemala 70s stickers and a faded picture of someone I couldn't make out. They were sandwiched between the front bulk head and the lower skin.

But the most interesting thing was written in red pen under the front goucho:
"WRONG AXLES"!!!!!!

And that IS interesting, NO?
