Showed my age today!
We had a minor bug in Answer Center's software today, and I said "Well what do you expect, it's Sadie Hawkins Day?"
I got dumb looks and a "Huh?" response from all but two people here... and had to explain the whole phenomenon. Including the dance and marriage proposals.
Happy Sadie Hawkins Day.
Now, who'll explain the story to our younger members?
Paula

Gawrsh Paula -- I don't know what the link was. How about Wikipedia - Sadie Hawkins Day - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
On moving north I was totally mystified by giggling girls leaving Mayday baskets. Knuckle dragger that I was...

Sadie Hawkins Day was one of the most fun events in our Junior High days. The whole school day was dedicated (by the girls -in spite of the teachers) to all kinds of "girls get the boys" (can't imagine this going on in middle schools today!) and then that night, the girls took the boys they'd invited to the big Sadie Hawkins Dance, and gifted their guys with a homemade corsage, things like cooking hot pads with utensils attached all over it, and other such silliness. The favorite dance of the night was always the bunny hop--yikes! Anyway, Sadie Hawkins was so different from any of the other school days that we all loved it. This surely dates me, yesiree! ~G

Sadie Hawkins Day?
I thought it was Leap Year. But, what do I know? I'm only 14 years old.

Silver......
Happy B-day. I turned 11 today myself! We are a rather elite few aren't we?
As an aside I was thinking Sadie Hawkins day only ocurred on Leap years but I might well be wrong 'cause I'm only 11. I heard my mom and dad talk about it tho'. (That and 78 speed records)
Aloha, etc.

Thanks for the wishes, guys. And Happy Birthday to you too, campernut64!
Pick: I like to keep it in February. However, I've been avoiding birthdays ever since the 12th one.

I like to celebrate in Feb. and March. Anytime there's cake/ice cream involved I'm a willing participant. My chiseled physique bears testimony.

Boy do I remember it! On Sadie Hawkins day the high school girls threw all care to the wind and wore some of the tightest cut off (and "cut up") shorts I've seen to this day - and no one told them to go home and come back dressed decently! Of course, this was Florida where, even in the '50s, short shorts and bikinis were becoming common! The Sadie Hawkins day dance was a blast too! Al Capp (Lil' Abner) got it just right!

Heck, I'm only 37 and we had a Sadie Hawkins Dance when I was in High School. That was the first dance I went to when I moved to a new school in tenth grade, what a night.
