Sept. 11th 2001

Today is the day.
Today, I remember that sometimes politics have to be set aside.
Today, I remember why we as a nation spend so much on our military.
Today, I remind myself that the American people will NOT tolerate terrorists
Today, I relive the horrid day and feel for the souls that perished
Today, the day I will not forget........

Sad that so many have already forgotten ... and so many have been forgotten.

The attack took place on a Tuesday. By that following Friday, President Bush had suggested to Americans that we could show strength in unity by re-establishing our daily activities, and so I attended my son's high school football game that night. I remember sitting in the bleachers with another football dad, and as we both watched the kick-off, the knowledge of what had transpired was still surreal. He related to me of his brother, who was working in the Pentagon. His brother had just left the desk of a friend and co-worker after chatting about plans for the week ahead and was walking down a corridor when the plane hit. He was sent airborne down the hall from the impact and his friend had been killed immediately. Just like that, he was among thousands who's life was forever changed and and thousands more who would never enjoy their future plans.

I remember watching my son play football. On one hand, it was all so superficial to root for a win in a football game, but on the other hand all I could think of was how grateful I was to have been born in a society where my son was putting his youthful dreams and energy into scoring touchdowns instead of wreaking terror upon innocents. The ability and capacity to make countless choices are what make us Americans. Thank you to all those who have served and do so now, to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in order to maintain our society... no greater good.

God bless those who lost their lives and pray for those who were personally touched by that horrific act. Thanks to those who serve to try to prevent another disaster.

9.11 was the turning point in my life. Our son was in basic training when the planes hit the towers, the Pentagon and was brought down in a field in PA. I knew as our nation watched those acts of absolute horror and evil that my son would be going to war and he did.
Those acts of war made me realize the reality of each and every other mother and father that had said good bye to their sons in the past as they went off to war.
I am forever indebted to everyone that ever wore our nations' military uniforms in defending our freedoms. Freedom is NOT free...never was.
God bless those that have sacrificed on our behalf. It is our duty & responsibility to assure that those sacrifices are never squandered.

That day happened to be on our first day in Bora Bora. The French tourists that were there were amazing and as helpful as they could be to us. Every American there bonded so tightly, regardless of where you were from, or what political party you associated with. Many of us are friends to this day. Why must it take a catastrophe to unite this way? Thinking about all those who suffered that day, and all of the families who have suffered since.

As I look at the divided politics, the racially charged demonstrations in Ferguson,MO, and observe more citizens crying out against unfair treatment of duck dynasty stars for their beliefs than those who vote in our politics, it is clear to me it is forgotten. Perhaps we will reattain our greatness, but 'a divided house cannot stand!' -Abraham Lincoln
