I don't think I would use any kind of paint on the surface of an AS. The numbers that you see on AS are of the stick-on kind that I assume you get when you become a WBC member. Or if you need replacement #'s, maybe contact AS.

Someone else may have more to add tto this.

On the other hand, paint wouldn't be much, if any, harder to remove than sticky letters - and the adhesive that is left when you remove them.

WBCCI in Jackson Center will sell new numbers. I think that information is available in the Blue Beret.

yeah, it would. I don't think you can remove paint with a steam iron, but the stickers and adhesive come right off with one. Paint stripper will remove the clear-coat underneath. While stickers may damage the clear underneath, it is a slow process.
I suppose its not an issue for the paint-er; when you sell the unit, it becomes the next guy's problem. But for the sake of the "next guy"...don't paint them on.

I went with self stick route when I put the Forum numbers on this fall.
The sign shop in town makes them to order, the same day, in any color or style you want. Everythig is cut out of a sheet of vinyl and mounted on a facing sheet so there is no layout or aligning of individual numbers or letters.
8 4" numbers and a 1" wide strip of letters proclaiming AIRSTREAMFORUMS.COM to stick next to the AIR decal only set me back 16 bucks.
Look great and were easy to apply. What a deal.

Tom.

Thanks Chuck, Jonathan, Bill, Fyrzowt, Tom and Jim..guess I'll have to save my favorite paint brush for another time!..are the numbers 4" high?

I like the static vinyl letters, Jim..just wondering if it would curl w/our hot Sacramento sun or slide off during the fog and rain?..

Painting vs Vinyl Diecuts vs Plaque

I too think painting should be your last choice.
We attended a rally recently with over 150 ASs attending. A noticeable trend was in hanging a plaque displaying numbers rather than having them applied to the body. FWIW, if you are into originality, she was not born with red numbers. Not that there is anything wrong with red numbers.

I don't think so, but I haven't used them enough to be sure. The Sacramento sun is no worse than the New Orleans sun. The rain and fog who knows.

Good luck Jim

Jim, I've been to New Orleans, and have felt the moisture (?) humidity there too!..I might order some of that yardage and try that out.

empresley,
Well, that would be another option, using another 'canvas' as it were, to display the wbcci number, though we're not yet a member..I could use our 'air number' instead, huh?

I just retired from Macy's in Sacramento. I did display carpentry and sometmes installed graphics on walls and windows. We (Macy's) ordered most of our adhesive graphics from Capital Signs in Sacramento. As discribed by another member the graphics, or in your case, numbers and/or letters come on slick paper with a transparent overlay. You peel off the paper then line up the your graphic (numbers) where you want, press and rub onto your surface, peel of the transparent overlay and you are done. You can mount all your numbers or what ever at the same time, not necesarily one at a time. That is how the copy on store windows is done nowadays. I hope this makes your numbering better.
Neil.

could you not mount the numbers on the front glass? then you would not have any shadows on the skin or hurt the finish . all you would then to remove it then would be is a razor blade then no damage...

I'd rather have an un-obstructed view out of my front window, rather than looking at some backwords numbers...

A lot of folks have opaque/semi-opaque window protectors on their front windows which would preclude the numbers from being visable.

another 2"

Just finished measuring my shadowed digits..they're 6" tall, not the 4" I was guessing..I wonder, since I'm not a member of the wbcci, would that mean that I'd have to join to get a new number?

To have a legal WBCCI number you would have to be a member. The current number on your trailer may be available. If you look on the WBCCI web page the membership officer has an email address listed. You can contact her and see if the number is available or any number you may want. Three digit numbers are not available and numbers over 30000 are not available.
