San Antonio Tx This June

I'm going to take a long trip this summer - my only required stop will be for three days in San Antonio Tx for a convention June 13-17. I need a campground convenient to San Antonio's downtown. The convention will be held in the Grand Hyatt if that's any help.

I'd prefer full hookups but highest priorities are short drive to town, decent water, quiet and safe.

Paula

Hi Paula. This is a bit of a tall order. I suspect you'll hate driving away from the river at the end of each day. I've always wondered about the KOA east of downtown. The drive there is a bit gritty -- I did it last fall going to the Spurs home opener. City almost drops away a bit when you get as far as the KOA. Read reviews, etc.

Anybody living local know the place? I could drive by there next week & give a report.

We stayed here for 3-4 days this past winter. Was very nice, clean and neat, staff were friendly and helpful.

This place is close to the highway, but all sites are not. We wanted easy access to the city, and it was perfect for us.

I have driven by that KOA numerous times. It has a tall fence all the way around it. It looks pretty nice. It appears to be next to a stream in some low ground. (that is not good when it rains in Texas) It is right across the street from Southwest Wheel in a sort of industrial zone. But the close proximity to downtown and easy access to I-35 would be a plus.

Stayed at the KOA just off downtown last summer for a meeting at the Hyatt. Drive time was less than 15 minutes at rush hour. It's clean and secure.

As others have said, the KOA on Gembler Road is a great place to stay and is very convenient to downtown. It has a fence all the way around so it is very secure, with lots of trees. I live in San Antonio, and worked within one half mile of the park for 19 years, so I am very familiar with the park. It is subject to flooding... but only in the event of 15 plus inches of rain which happens about every 12 years. Hope you enjoy your stay in the River City.

This place is nice, and just south of the city. Not a far drive at all.

I also recommend the KOA - it was nice enough, and secure.

A city bus also stops at the entrance, so you can park your TV and ride in; that solves a parking question. But then again, we didn't have any problem parking downtown, either.

We stayed at Travelers World RV Resort. Bus stops to take you to the Riverwalk. We also liked that they were close to the mission trail. Texas RV Parks - RV Campgrounds & Resorts

We stayed at the same place the end of February and were pleased. It's about 10-11 miles from the center of San Antonio. Would stay there again.

Travlers World is an old established rv park. They are very nice and the spaces are shady and quiet. They had a guard that drove thru the park between dark and dawn. It was very easy to get to downtown and back. It is also very easy to do the missions tour from there. the neighborhood looks seedy ,but once inside you are in a good area. AS a 70+ widow I would not hesitate to stay there now. Hope you enjoy your stay in SA where ever you decide to stay. Kay

You call us! I'm two blocks from the Guadalupe! Just had a nice kayak trip with my daughter the other day. The upper Guad is starting to get a little low and slow in places, but it is still navigable.
Sorry Paula, nothing to recommend in the way of parks that would be close. Plenty of stuff near me, but too far away for your purposes.

Sounds great. We called around to several places in New Braunfels for floating the Guadalupe over the summer. Unfortunately we are currently trailerless, and I don't think we want to camp in the summer hear of TX with a tent. We would have to stay day trippers.

Yessir...

I am leaving San Antonio on Monday and will be back in Mid May until August. Plan to do alot of floating while here. The less expensive options for overnight is the best option for me...as long as there is AC.

Paula? Come in Paula... Your take on the comments at this point?

Bexar Bob (you got it! Not in MN right now) (walk the River; you'll walk right under Carol Burnett's, Oliver North's & my birthplace -- the tall building on the north side, just east of the Navarro St. bridge -- the old Nix Hospital, now just a clinic)
