It appears that many of us are/were sailors. Airstreams and yachts seem to have a common bond at some level.
As a long-time sailboat (and now former) owner I still like to keep up on the latest news from the yachting world. Naturally, the place to do that is Latitude 38, the premier sailing rag in the world based in the San Francisco Bay area.
I hadn't checked in for a while, but decided that I could use a sailing fix today, and learned about the current Baja Ha-ha and other wonderful sailing related delights, but the best I ran across is the Wisdom page on the Latitude 38 website. There is much there that applies to Land Yachts as well, so I thought I'd share it with you. Enjoy!

Roger,
There is a quote On that site that you gave the link to. Robert Manry was a copy editor for the Cleveland Plain Dealer. In 1964 or 65 he sailed his 13 1/2 foot sailboat solo across the Atlantic from Falmouth, Mass. to Falmouth England. 78 days in a boat not to much bigger than a bathtub, imagine that. Anyway a couple years ago I found that book at a local flea market. It caught my eye so I grabbed it for 10 cents. What a great read, spent a few nights in my Safari savoring those pages. I am always on the lookout for personal travel accounts by sailors, cyclists, hikers, or any travel adventure that can take me away without going anywhere. Thanks for the link. Bob,

When my neighbor discovered I was selling it all and going Full Time he pressed the book "The Wanderer" by Sterling Hydin in my hand. A very good read

I knew my wife and I were true Sailors when after Katrina we stood looking at our totaled sailboat, after I got her back her back in the water. We both said what a mess what do we do now. We both looked at each other and said repair her and go sailing. No hesitation, the work is under way.

How does a guy from Tipton, Iowa know about Lattitude 38?
Good Karma. I sailed a 28 ft. Rawson from Long Beach to Tahaiti in '64.
Someday I will get out of Texas and hear the surf again...Till then its a "Landyacht."
P.S.
I jumped ship in Tahaiti and was on the "Wandererer" the night before it went aground on the reef at Rangaroa.( 1964....literally a lifetime ago.)
Hey... I'll bet you didn't know that half of the "C" Scows used in racing on the S.F. Bay have sailed on Lake Red Rock in Iowa at some time in their racing careers?
I got off the farm for a while... about 25 years...
Roger

We have an antique restored Sailboat. It was a Lightning 19 ft I believe. My husband worked one winter on our garage and it became a Day Sailer. We had fun with the Sail Boat and now it is stored in our garage. It is all wood
with a 28 ft mast. We got involved with Airstream restoration and did no sailing this year.
