What a wealth of information he provided. A loss to all of us who profited by his input.

My thoughts are with those of the 4CU that knew Rob personally and to all those he helped and communed with here on Air Forums.

I will offer up this traditional Irish prayer which I always find to be a fitting send off

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Dana

We were planning to travel through ID on Highway 12. Contacted Rob about the route and he insisted we plan to stop and stay on his property. Plans changed and we didn't make it up that way, but he seemed like a really nice guy, inviting strangers to come stay with him. Sorry we never got to meet.

He will be missed here, he was without question one of the most constructive and valuable members of this community. My deep sympathy to those who knew him personally.

This is sad news. He was the first member to reply to my first post in the forum about 4 years ago. Always a great contributor. May he rest in peace.

This is such sad news and a great loss to our community. Rob was one of the Good Ones, an avid and enthusiastic Airstreamer for many decades. Long before AirForums existed, he was an active participant on the Vintage Airstream email list and contributed many photos to the Airstream Archives created and expanded by RJ Dial, which has since been taken over by AirForums. As Greg notes, Rob was a very kind and generous man.

I met Rob at our Rocky Mountain VAC Rallies, where he excitedly shared his trailering knowledge and experiences. As one of the very first users of the Andersen hitch, he showed me its mechanical components part by part before delving into the theory underlying its operation. This made the path from the physical to the abstract very easy to follow. The next year he described in detail the small modifications he and the company made to it to improve the hitch’s performance and wear characteristics. He loved its elegant approach to controlling sway and porpoising on small trailers, and spread the gospel.

He also loved showing off the various components of the always evolving 12 volt solar system on his trailers, explaining its wiring, controllers, latest equipment and ever-improving performance. Every time I met him he had something new and exciting to share with those interested in making Airstreaming more enjoyable and rewarding. As with any great educator, he moved at a pace tailored to his listener and always kept the subject matter fresh and interesting.

Rob also had a keen eyes for beauty and design. I’ll end with one of my all-time favorite Airstream photos, taken by Rob over 2 decades ago from his 2nd story porch. It captures the unseen but beautiful lines of the roof on his 1954 California-built Airstream, giving us a seagull’s view of its lovely whale tail construction. Rob not only appreciated this pleasing deco design when he first gazed upon it, he also generously shared this hidden delight with other Airstreamers around the world. Such was his curious and keen nature, which shall be greatly missed but not forgotten.

Thank you Fred for the remembrances. Well said.

As a newcomer here it was always reassuring when the name idroba appeared with an answer, as he did recently about a FC20 Pioneer radio problem some of us were having. Carefully and patiently, suggestions were made, and no further questions were generally needed.

Rest in Peace.

Happy Trails,

Peter

Oh Salient One...
These Lines salute you not because thou art a great ruler of people but it sings your praise because thou art a Great Leader of People...
As Our Comrades would put it 'Whom the Cap Fits'...
Like Da Vinchi, Like Hippocrates...
To You do we etch these Salient Lines...
Lines that Honour men that dance to the drumbeat of the Spirits...
Men that see above the Alps, To Men That See Through do we Chant these Odes...
We Lift up Voices We Lift up our Waists...
My Good Friends do come and dance to the Health of this Greatman...

Edmond John

We can only pray that those we touch in life, will remember our feats with our passing.

Cheers to you and men of your ilk.
Tony

I too will miss Rob's thoughtful and technical posts helping many, many of us solve a problem, especially electrical systems. He had a lot of credibility with me.

We are saddened by his sudden passing, but we have the many posts in these forums that will allow idroba to help others for a very long time. We won't forget him.

Having started perusing airforums back in the summer of 2014, I was asking a bunch of questions and hoping for answers. It didn't take long to appreciate the mainstays, and IDROBA was certainly one of them. I'm sad I'll never get to meet him, learn from him, and thank him. This forum is a wonderful thing - most of us never having met and yet still sharing a common passion. I think David had a great idea to revisit IDROBA's many posts. Thank you Rob for your generosity.

At a loss over loss...

I'm always unsure what to say about such things. I saw this thread last night and couldn't fully process it. It's been a "lossy" few years for me, with 2- and 4-legged friends going on before, and I couldn't quickly get my head around yet another.

You can see from my post count that I spend more time than I should on AIRForums and part of the magic for a long time has been keeping in touch with Rob. I had the pleasure of meeting him in person at a Rocky Mountain VAC rally in Colorado, and my own Argosy is better than it might be for the knowledge and experience he shared, and my next will be better still for the same reason. The chaos of my own life has had me distracted so far this year, and I just didn't know what was going on with him.

I can take some solace in the fact that he was in Idaho when he passed, rather than his AZ winter quarters that seemed more pragmatic than loved. I'm sorry that I never had the chance to go to Idaho before he passed, though. Hopefully between those of us who learned from him, the community has preserved a good part of the knowledge he shared with us all.

His insights and suggestions to problems were always well considered and spot on. A great man who was definitely not full of himself, but sharing his wealth of knowledge for the common good.

He will certainly be missed.
