RV pad size.

Hi, I plan [in the future] on having an RV pad made for my 25'er. [8'5"s X 25'11"s ] I figured that a 12' by 30' pad should work. What size is your RV and what size pad do you have, or plan to have, and why?

Wish we had room for a pad at home for our AS. The size you suggests sounds about right for your 25' rig but have you considered making it a bit longer, room permitting, just on the off chance you up-size your rig in the future. The PO of our rig used DG (no, not Door Gunner.... decomposed granite) and he said he really liked it for this type of application because of good drainage, easy on the tires, and low maintenance. From past experience: allow at least a 3' to 4' border around the unit. This will provide for work space when washing, changing tires, adjusting brakes and so on. Also be overly generous front to back for future expansion. Everything is realitive to the available space.

Since anything over 25' feet long today is 8.5 feet wide, it would seem a minimum inside width of 16' would gave under cover work space and then add 8 feet to the longest trailer and fifty feet sounds good to have some storage and a workbench. The size could get bigger to include the tow vehicle.

I'd have to look it up, but I'm pretty sure our pad is only 11 feet wide. We were limited in the square footage we could add, so we had a choice between shorter and wider or narrower and longer...glad we went with narrower and longer, because now the truck fits comfortably on the pad, too, when unhooked.

And we sort of lose a foot in width because of the overhang of the roof of the house (rancher) - we have to be careful not to hit that as we're backing in, either at the front or the rear of the house (no overhang along the side we're on, but the front and rear have an overhang). But, I wouldn't really want the camper closer to the house anyway - as it is now, I have a comfortable but not excessive amount of room to work on the tires, etc., on that side of the camper. Just gotta watch my head on the electrical meter on the side of the house.

On the other side of the camper, the tires are basically on the pad by only a few inches, so when I'm working there I have to sit in the grass. I usually sit on cardboard instead, of course.

Our pad is the length of the house on that side, and of course the back of the camper sits off the end of it. Of course we really didn't need it that long - we could've stopped the pad just behind where the tires would go. The longer pad lets us jockey around a bit without going off the back of it, and it lets us park a longer trailer if we ever need one (but since we're already hauling around a 30', we can't get too much longer anyway).

One thing I've noticed - we're pretty hard on the grass just off the step of the camper, because we're always stepping there. Some grass finally started growing there this year, so it's not a bare spot, but it's still not quite as thick as the rest of the lawn. (It never really recovered from when we installed the pad and all of the grass was pretty torn up.) Food for thought, if that kind of thing bothers you. The bare spot bothers me a bit, so I'm glad it's filling in. It's grass; you're supposed to be able to walk on it!

I can pull forward and move to right for full 360 access.

As you can see I am limited in access when stored. I can still get around and open hatches but too tight for much else.

I have access from behind shop for rear hatch storage, etc.

When moved forward there is enough room to deploy curbside awning while missing our home roof and still close gates once TV is disconnected, to contain dogs.
