Road Flicks
Rick and I just finished watching Albert Finney and Audrey Hepburn's "Two for the Road," which got us thinking about what movies we would consider essentials for our eventual Airstream movie library. We were bowled over by this one--and feel its poignancy, 1960s vintage, and road theme makes it a must for our 1961 trailer.
So what movies do you think are musts for your trailer? Do you choose films for the trailer based on a travelling theme? Do you theme to the age of your trailer?
I'm curious what kinds of movies folks suggest!

Road Flicks
Greetings Mary!
I agree with Janet, you cant beat The Long, Long, Trailer. While it doesn't feature an Airstream (the featured coach is a New Moon); an Airstream does make a very brief cameo appearance in the Los Angeles Trailer Show scene very early in the film. (I typically view the film repeatedly during most Rallys and Caravans -- often placing it in the player when I can't sleep and falling asleep to the action.)
I also carry the following for interesting viewing:
Airstreamers: An American Family, by Roadtrip Productions, copyright 1998. Focuses on the Vintage Airstream Club and several of the charter members of the VAC. It is a very interesting videography.
American Odyssey: A film about age, adventure and the open road, by Christina Monnier, copyright 2000. This documentary also focuses upon WBCCI caravans and rallys with member interviews and footage of vintage as well as modern coaches.
Roam, Sweet Home, by Ellen Spiro, Copyright 1996. This is one of my favorite videos. The video is "Narrated" by the authors dog as they travel across the content towing a 1960s Caravel(?). During the travels a number of RVers are interviewed (most were Airstreamers, but there were several who were not). I know that every time that I view this film, I want to hitch up one of my coaches and hit the road.
Silver Palaces, by Miles Fawcet, copyright 1992. This is another of my frequently viewed videos. It features footage from several caravans -- some Vintage footage including Wally Byam.
Mobile America, by Huell Howser, copyright 2002. I just acquired this video a short time after last year's International Rally -- it was publicized during a membership drive for my local PBS station. It was difficult to obtain at that time due to some problems with the video distribution company, but it was worth the wait -- the video is fantastic and focuses on the Vintage era of RV travel -- no particular brand is featured, but there are many interesting coaches from a wide variety of manufacturers inclduing Airstream, Silver Streak, Avion, and many others.
Good luck with your search!
Kevin

Two for the Road-
Wow, does that take me back (and make me feel my age) I remember seeing it when I was a 14 or 15 year old. Among other things, the music was haunting - Mancini? - to this day it will creap into my head at unexpected moments....
Speaking of road movies and their music - there is always Easy Rider.....

Jack, While You Were Sleeping is my absolute favorite movie of all time, and so few people have even heard of it!
We just take along a couple seasons of Simpsons on DVD. I mostly like to read while on a trip, but Dave like to watch a little TV before nodding off.

Looks like most are going for romances and light comedies!
I have to admit, I watched the movie "Bachelor in Paradise" several times for inspiration on how to decorate my trailer... It's a silly comedy, but I really like it for its surreal cinemascopic documentation of early 60s suburban ranch style. It left me dreaming of tikki bars, wall art and someday getting a 61 Chrysler as a tow vehicle!

Perfect World
Mary,
You must get Kevin Costner's, Clint Eastwood's A Perfect World...Texas Ranger (Eastwood) chasing in a 60's Airstream Kostner who likes Fords!
