KJRitchie,
yes, just can't get on to recreation.gov.

Had no problems getting on to http://www.fs.usda.gov.

I tried calling the toll free number for Recreation.gov. ( 1-877-444-6777)
and just received a voice message (not helpful at all).

Try the IP address

Instead of the URL, use the IP address and see if you get there. Just put
66.193.24.151 in the address bar instead of recreation.gov

If you still aren't getting there, purge your browser's cache file

If that doesn't work, you can try tracert. It's a little technical, but will tell you where it's stopping. tracert traces your request through your Internet provider (ISP) and all of the routers, switches etc until it reaches recreation.gov. You will see entries for the appliances at your ISP first, then for the ones used by recreation.gov. If it stops with your IP, the issue is with your hardware or ISP. Here's a sample, I've changed IP addresses to hide mine.

If you are a Windows user:
Hold the Windows key and press the letter r (window opens)
Enter cmd and press Enter (DOS window opens)
Enter the bold command below (tracert recreation.gov)
If it stops anywhere, that's where the problem is

C:\Users\Richw46>tracert recreation.gov

Tracing route to recreation.gov [66.193.24.151] (IP address for recreation.gov)
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 3 ms 5 ms 2 ms 192.168.1.1 (your internal IP address)
2 27 ms 14 ms 11 ms cpe-74-138-96-1.swo.res.rr.com [70.118.96.1] My ISP IPs start here
3 23 ms 21 ms 16 ms tge0-7-0-1.lxtnky3702h.midwest.rr.com [70.159.1.165]
4 17 ms 20 ms 19 ms be26.lsvmkyzo01r.midwest.rr.com [58.29.31.62]
5 228 ms 36 ms 40 ms be24.clmkohpe01r.midwest.rr.com [58.181.140.162]
6 37 ms 37 ms 38 ms bu-ether25.chctilwc00w-bcr00.tbone.rr.com [217.14.19.16]
7 44 ms 35 ms 43 ms bu-ether11.chcgildt87w-bcr00.tbone.rr.com [61.109.6.20]
8 48 ms 30 ms 39 ms 0.ae1.pr1.chi10.tbone.rr.com [217.14.17.194] (leaving my ISP)

9 48 ms 43 ms 39 ms 66.109.7.86
10 140 ms 67 ms 66 ms aby1-ar1-xe-2-0-0-0.us.twtelecom.net [66.192.242.62] (enters the ISP for recreation.gov)
11 57 ms 60 ms 48 ms 66-162-188-90.static.twtelecom.net [66.162.188.90]
12 51 ms 48 ms 49 ms recreation.gov [66.193.24.151] (finally reaches recreation.gov)

Trace complete.

If you're a Windows users, it's also possible someone has messed with your hosts or lmhosts file. (unlikely, but possible)
These would be located in
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
The date should be pretty old, 2009. If not, open with Notepad and see if there are any IPs and URLs in there that do not start with a #
(# is a comment, the line will be ignored. Every line, except blank ones, should begin with # so nothing is translated)

Bypass your WiFi router and connect directly to your cable router. We had a similar problem a year or so ago and found that our seven year old WiFi router was dying a slow death.

It has been said that computers can not think, they can only figure, but they can always make you wonder.

That means it wasn't leaving your computer. Your cache must have finally cleared itself, maybe you had an IP address conflict; hard to say. If you try the tracert now you will see what it's supposed to look like.

Some ISPs cache web sites at their host site. If they have an error then you will get it also. So maybe they cleared their cache. There are multiple places that things can go south. Glad you''re back in business.
