Well, let's chime in on this . . .
I've got a late model Mercedes Diesel, with the fancy BlueTec to improve mileage, and while it does easily get 32 mpg at 70 mph on cruise, it only averages 18 mpg pulling my 19 footer - so, am I selfish? Don't think so. Just a reality check. (BTW - I have seen well over 20 mpg going downhill so there's that!)

Clarification;

I get about 11 mpg at 60 mph, and about 9 mpg at AZ, TX, and NM speed limits...

No guilt...

If I thought that CO2 was a bad thing, (I don't), I would point out that my "old" truck and trailers production "carbon footprint" amortized over many years is quite low, reducing my contribution greatly.

It takes a lot of electricity to make aluminum... #JustSayin.

I like a beer with a bit of body. Corona is my "light" flavored, sit on the beach beer, Yeungling Black and Tan are my standard go to beer...which works out well, because my son in law says he doesn't like to "chew his beer", which leaves all the Black and Tans for me, while he drinks a girly lime flavored light something or anotherweiser... Went to a pub in Gainesville called Stubbies and Steins and tried a Pensacola IPA... Good lord what a strong flavor. Good stuff, had to sip it though.

And, congrats on the wedding...

Saw 13 to 14 mpg on the flats towing a new empty 23D behind the Mercedes E320 CDI at 65 or lower depending on speed limit signs.

Had a BBQ chicken pizza for supper tonight. Sounds weird. Tastes surprisingly good. Fig Newtons and Scotch for dessert.

Been that kind of WEEK. Y'all have a great weekend.

I used to make the common sense insults, until I realized that common sense is only common to what you know. What's common in America, might not be common sense in say Germany.

It might be common sense to never go anywhere in Seattle without an umbrella, but to someone else, that's not common sense.

Although, there are a lot of things, that you would hope would be universal sense. But sadly, they are not.

Funny thing about that - no Seattle native would ever be seen with an umbrella. Fleece and Gore-Tex is all they use.

Hmm...if the perspective is MPG and MPG is the result of an equation, please give us the details. What vehicle towing say, a loaded FC20, would provide consistent 20+ MPG?

I don't think the length or the weight of the trailer makes much difference.

Many years ago, in the early '70s I had a 23' AS, and my dad had a 31' AS,
I pulled mine with a '71 Grand Prix, and he pulled his with a Suburban. We both kept a record of mileage on our respective TVs.

I was going to take my wife's sister and some kids with us on a vacation to Yellowstone and the Tetons, so my dad suggested that I take his Suburban and he and Mom would take my GP on their vacation.

When we got back we compared gas mileage. Both TVs got their normal mileage even tho they were towing a different trailer.

I think it's more about the wind resistance. Our two ASs had the same frontal area, even tho the weight was vastly different.

Bingo,

Weight matters some, more so in stop and go, but air is the true efficiency stealer in highway towing.

A heavy unit will use more gas going up a hill, but will recover most of this energy on the inevitable descent. (What is not lost to brakes or engine pumping losses).

Still waiting to hear about the 20+ MPG vehicle with which all of us under 25' folks should be unselfishly towing...😉

Questions to ponder

How do the Chinese Take-out folks stay in business? For six bucks, I get enough food for three meals.

Why does a tube of Vulkem have an expiration date? Once outta the tube, it has a 50 year life span. Something magical I suppose.

Jes Thinkin' And it's starting to hurt.

Simple; on a twin axle trailer you put larger wheels on the rear axle than on the front axle. That way you're pretty much always going downhill so any extra weight just pushes you faster.
