It's been an insane week, and still have a bunch of finish work to do, trimming, staining and a desk to build. But tonight I am going to sleep on our new bed.

Am I the only nosy Nate that tried photosnoop to see what is in his overhead compartment?

How'd that new bed sleep?

Looks like I'm going to have to start a thread. We got the desk shape down. Choose to go with a corner desk; as I'm really enjoying the more open floor plan the twin offers. This will leave things a bit more open. Bolted into the walls.

Now I need two additional supports for strength at the edge. Looking at aluminum piping/conduit and flanges to find something stylish.

I'd like to see what others have done for a desk. I spent a month sitting on the L-couch and trying to use the fold away table in our AS; not bad but could be better.

I too encourage you to start a new thread.

Hey, I went on a 500 mile trip with the new Chevy. I averaged 23.7 mpg driving mostly 75 mph. I have never had a truck that would do that!

The downside is I have to use PREMIUM gas.

Still, that's better than the 14 mph my old Chevy with the 6 liter got.

Wow. I don't think I've ever had a car that got mileage that good, even unhitched.

Our maiden voyage with the E-350 PSD averaged 10MPG

Random thoughts on fuel mileage

Having the opportunity across Mississippi on I-20 Westbound, I ran some fuel economy "trials", two sessions, five minutes at each speed, using my Garmin Mechanic with ecoRoute™ HD to look at data on my Garmin Dezl 560 GPS.

The equipment, 2008 Dodge/Cummins SLT 2500 Crew Cab, 4X4, special tune by Pure Diesel, Kernersville, NC. Also, carrying 475 lbs additional fuel in 60 Gallon tank in bed.

TT= Airstream Serenity, 30 RB, full water tank and loaded for three weeks out.

Axle weights: Front 4480 lbs, Rear 4920, TT 7280

Results: Towing at 55 mph the data showed an average of 16.4 mpg
At 60 mph 13.5 mpg
At 65 mph 11.2 mpg

These are from the OBD II connection and not actual data. However, towing from 62 - 65 mph, my actual figures are 12.7 mpg, I think about normal for me headed west into prevailing winds. I usually get about 2.5 - 3 more mpg headed east.

What does this suggest? The difference between 55 mph and 65 mph is costing approximately 46% more in fuel, or on my current trip, about $200-300 more in fuel over 3,000 miles.

I will continue to pull at 60-62 mph, as my overall average speed does not seem to be much different pulling at 65+. I tend to stop about 15-20% of my time, so average is determined more by the stop time than the actual speed of towing.

I haven't towed with it yet, but I guess I'm not worried too much about towing mileage. Towing is such a small percentage of it's useage.

So far, with just 2000 miles on it, my combined city/highway mileage is around 20.1 or 2. I'm driving normal, for me, with no hot rodding. I have a feeling that if I mash that go pedal to the floor the fuel needle on the guage will act like the second hand of a clock heading towards E.

Similar drop for me with my gas engine. I use the old fill up, reset trip odometer, run till a quarter then fill up and divide miles by gallons. I get about 13mpg at 60 and 11 mpg at 65. I try to stay at 60 as much as possible. Increase your speed and you increase wind resistance so mileage will drop. The faster you go the more wind resistance you will encounter.

The thing to remember is that the increase in wind resistance is not linear but exponential. Doubling the speed from 30 to 60 increases drag by almost 4 times. Driving at 65 rather than 55 MPH makes a big difference in the rig's tendency to pull to the right when approaching a gas station.

Yep!
The faster you go the harder it is for you to go faster... and more costly. I find that traveling at 60 is comfortable, cost effective and will get me there eventually. If not, there's always tomorrow.
