Rain in New England

It's been raining hard non-stop for three days now in New England. I heard we are now in an official state of emergency. We have no heat in our house because our furnace is under 6 in of water in the basement -- our pump can't keep up. Our backyard is now part of the lake...parts and pieces of docks and boats without owners are floating past my view as I look out the rain streaked window. And still the rain is coming down...hard. The power has been off and on all day and there is no end in sight. The access road to our street is under 10 in of water. I just returned from taking the dog for a walk. After five minutes outside, he looks like he spent the day swimming in the lake. We are ready for the worse -- we have prepped the Airstream for a cozy camp-out in the driveway tonight.

How are my other New England Airstream friends doing?

Rain, rain, go away...

We're okay so far, just really gettin' tired of it. The house is on a little bit higher ground, and a vernal pool down the hill seems to be handling most of our rain. The rest is settling down into the conservation wetlands next to our property. We don't have a basement, so no flooding there. I heard that the Concord and Sudbury rivers near us are getting pretty high and there's a lot of water spilling into roads around us, but we're staying put so I don't have any first-hand observations for you.

Yuki, I hope the rain will subside soon and you can get your water bailed out. Stay cozy in the Bambi!

Good luck you guys. We are thinking the best thoughts for you. We live on the West coast so know what heavy rain is all about but fortunately this weekend we are hot and dry. Not typical weather for us this time of year so we all wonder what's coming at us. Good thing you have the Airstream to bunk down snug and warm in.

Washed out streets and no driving rules in place

We just got back from vacation yesterday (white knuckles for me coming into the Manchester, NH airport with all the wind, rain and fog). Our little town is under water! Power on and off, many closed streets, the river is overflowing and our police are saying "stay at home!". Next town over is CLOSED! Meaning no one can travel on their roads. Wow!

"The Tube" is just fine though. In her barn, nice and dry. We are on the side of a mountain (well, by NH standards anyway) so we do not have any issues with flooding. If we do end up with water we should all be building Arc's as we are many hundreds of feet above the river.

Rain is predicted for New Boston everyday unit May 23rd! Yikes, I think we could be in for some wild times this week.....

Oh, man! Every time we go somewhere, we return home to some sort of weather disaster. Sorry, it's a curse! No water accumulation up on this hill, but some banks were starting to overflow when we came through at 7:00. Hope you are O.K.

Should I stay or should I go?

Decisions...decisions...it's just after 11 p.m. and we were just awakened by a visit from the emergency management team who are going door-to-door...voluntary evacuations are in progress all around the lake. The watershed area we live in includes three lakes linked together with dams and rivers in between that are at a heightened risk of compromise. For the time being, we plan on staying put.

OMG! Stay dry and safe. This sounds crazy to be worried about weather this time of year. We are sending warm and dry thoughts your way. Crossing my fingers that we don't have a lake in our basement.

School's closed, a rain day vice snow day. Tack another one on to the end of the school year. Basement's wet, waiting for utilities to be lost since they're all underground. Another good excuse for that generator. We now have lakefront property, community pool across the street is flooded. Fear of dams breaching in Lebanon, Milton and Rochester which will send a wall of water down this way. Neighbors have been notified by emergency personnel that evacuation may be eminent if conditions worsen - it's still raining.

Yuki -- Hope you got through the night okay. With the forecast for more of the same, I know that you're busy working out your plan. We're here, and still high and dry, if we can help in any way. If you evacuate, don't forget to carry your unit directory with you with our phone numbers.
