Rain!

After crisping through most of July and August and being declared one of the worst drought regions in the country, mid-Missouri is having a royal thunder-boomer rain. All my fingers and toes are crossed for a rain that can affect our dryness rather than a momentary burst followed by little or nothing. This blessing is probably too late for our farmers with corn and soybeans and pastures burning up, but maybe trees and gardens can be saved. Just sharing the joy!

Would gladly give ya'll some of our rain. It's been raining bucket loads for weeks. I hope you all get plenty.

Apparently, this is occuring only at your house. We're still bone dry in Springfield, Mo.

We had enough rain to knock the dust down somewhat. May even be enough that I'll have to mow the grass. It's too little too late for the farmers. The corn burnt up standing in the field around here in west-central MO. Wheat did ok. Soybeans look salvagable. I think we have had more rain than Jeff City or Springfield. We started out so well this year, only to have the drought return when the farmers needed rain so badly.

Unfortunately we got none of it here in the southwest suburbs of STL. I finally broke down and got the sprinkler going. Not that it will green up much but just to keep things viable when the real reain begins. With my luck and my vacation time soon approaching, the rains will probably come then.

Any chance of you taking vacation earlier and that you could travel around the state? We could use the rain.
