Woohoo! I just brought home my new-to-me little FeatherWeight Singer Sewing Machine today. My applique class instructor had several and was willing to let me have one. She had it serviced several years ago, and I'll probably do the same as soon as possible, just to be sure everything works well and lubrication is up to date. I have the carry case, though it's a little rough. She had few accessories and I'll need to get the quarter inch foot for piecing. It's darling, shiny black and gold, and looks ready to piece quilt squares for a long time to come. Now, if we can get our little Argosy ready to go on the road, I can set up camp and piece to my heart's content ~G

Congratulations!! I am so excited for you! Nothing like a new old machine!
Sadly... (ashamed to admit it) my poor featherweight hasn't seen much use. Simply because none of my recent projects have fitted it's use....so I haven't gotten acquainted with it.

However, it will go in the AS... I'll have to plan my next project around it!

Help

I just signed on to make a quilt to sell at an auction next June - the proceeds will go to breast cancer research. What I have in mind is a quilt that I last saw when I was in high school - in the 60's. Help me find it or something similar.

It's an appliqued pattern of running roses on a white background - and has sort of scalloped edges. It's naturalistic rather than cartoonish - and the roses are sort of vined together with green stems.... sound like anything anyone has seen lately. I'd probably describe it as art nouveau.

It's going to be 95% hand work if I can find it, so I need to start now.

Alternate ideas will be gratefully accepted, but here's my personal taste - pink is an ACCENT COLOR not a primary color.

Paula

I don't know the pattern, but it sounds lovely. I've just begun applique, and I love the quiet handwork to do in the evening. As for the pink, beside "baby" and "PeptoBismol" shades, pink can take on beautiful dusky tones that are very appealing to me, for example. Keep us posted on what you choose to do! ~G

Been rather quiet here lately. I guess that means that we are all sewing!

Not so much in my case, I've been on one of those weird sewing strikes that hit every few months. I occasionally get over involved in a project and burnout for a few weeks. I am thinking of redoing the the front gaucho coucho cover before Thanksgiving Trip.... insanity has probably struck me.....

I am redoing our front couch this winter. Had the fabric for over 6 months now so I guess I need to get started soon. I hear ya on the burnout. I still get it occasionally even with a new machine to play with. When sewing strike hits I wind up knitting more so at least something is getting done.

Oh, mcair.... you too? I've gotten some knitting done this week as well! I feel the same way. It does't feel right to not do something so i get out the scarf that's taken 8 months to not finish!

Project Idea

I had to share this quilt with you guys. I have actually decided to make a variation of it.

Pendleton patchwork « West Coast Crafty

I sent an email to Pendleton to ask them some questions. They said the sample cards are extremely rare but they get shipments in of the other options almost weekly. I then called them to order the material. I am going to make 3 of them for our A/S.... something else to combat the cold nights.

I never heard of a fabric company selling plaid charm packs, that is really cool and plaid quilts would be perfect for hanging out by the campfire with! I wonder if they also sell these things I am new too and have never tried yet: "Jelly Rolls". You can also supplement with old plaid flannel shirts or work shirts ; )

Pendleton store carries wool yarn? Uh oh. that could be dangerous considering this knitting kick that i am on right now.
Our last unit rally is this weekend and I have plenty of knitting toys to play with in front of the fire!
