Here's my first block for the Quilt of Valor. I'm thinking the most time involved is in making that first block. I plan on making a few more to send.
Hopefully, practice will make perfect (or at least closer to straighter edges and more consistent finished block sizes.)

Childrens game bags / Foot warmer
Here's two little bags for kids electronic games and such. Needed something padded and cute to take on camping adventures.
And a foot warmer I made for my Mom for Christmas, the inside muslin bag is filled with rice to warm in microwave for 2 min.
Here's to a happy healthy new year filled with inspiring sewing and quilting projects and many camptrips!

Not to worry about block size. I picked that particular star pattern because it is very forgiving and I can resize all the blocks to be the same with none the wiser! Love that block!
Love the bags, Jezibels!

Quilt of Valor
Kay, I put four blocks in the mail to you this morning for the Quilt of Valor.
Let me know if you think you'll come up short of blocks before your retreat at the end of the month and I'll try to get a few more off to you.
I'm a novice quilter so I didn't recognize until after the fact that we are actually making Flying Geese for this star pattern.
Thank you again for coordinating this effort.

Quilts of Valor
Hi Kay - 4 blocks in the mail to you today, and I've invited a couple of quilting friends to contribute as well, assuming that you will accept their efforts, even if they don't own Airstreams

OF COURSE I'll accept blocks from your friends! This is more about quilts for military wounded than about Airstreams as far as I'm concerned. Thank you so much to people mailing blocks!

Two in my quilting group are beset by family health problems this week so we are not getting together until possibly next week. Like Nancy, if my group doesn't get to make blocks in time before your retreat, I'll do a few more and send them to you with the three I"ve done. You are so GOOD to take this on! ~G

I don't have to have the blocks for the retreat. I will do the quilt whenever I get them. Don't stress out too much about it!

I was just kidding about the airstream ownership of quilters who contribute to your project, Kay. My nephew is in the military (one tour of duty i Iraq and is currently in Afghanistan), so your project hit close to my heart. I'm delighted that you appear to be getting such a generous response from this group and their friends, and since you indicate you'll be able to use blocks even if they come in after your retreat, you may get a few additional ones from me.

Here's the secret to making a Zinnia Pillow, buy the pillow forms (I got mine at Hobby Lobby about $10 each) 1- 18" x 18" and 2 -14" x 14" are shown above. Each fabric front is one fat quarter, the backs are vintage fabrics from my stash, each zinnia will require 1/2 yd of felt (I used wool felt by the bolt). Trace a large dinner plate on right side of each leaving 4" spacing to the edge. Cut about 50- 3 1/2" circles from felt and 25 - 2 1/2" circles, cut your circles in half. Lay the straight edge of the circle "petal" on the line you drew with the curve of the half circle "petal" facing the outer edge, sew your petal on overlapping the next petal as you go. Once you get to the 3rd row of circles you will switch to the smaller size petal, as you get to the center you will need to put a pleat in each petal to get the material to curve, this makes the center stand up as you go. When you get to the very middle sew a small piece of felt in the center and stuff. I hope this inspires you to make one or a few for the camper!

Kay, my group of quilting friends met today at our local quilt shop and produced 24 valor blocks--we oooed and ahhhed over each one as it was completed Some additional blocks wil be coming to me tomorrow, so I'll mail the collection to you on Friday. Hopefully, they'll be what you are expecting, arrive in time for your retreat, and will make up into some pretty quilts for our wounded warriors. Thanks again for introducing this worthy project to us. We had great fun at our quilting party today. Everyone left feeling that she had taken part in something much larger than our local group. My friends asked if you would be able to post pictures here of the quilts made from these blocks when they are finished, if not too much trouble. Thanks again, ~Georgia

OMG! I currently have 16 blocks (with the addition of 6 blocks by Gayle in NM), and you're adding ...... HOLY COW. I definitely will get several quilts out of all these wonderful blocks! This is really great! I'm loving all the places I've got blocks from so far, and having such beautiful blocks to use. I will definitely post pictures when I get the tops done. I have a feeling, it will take more than 1 weekend retreat, but that's ok.
THIS IS GREAT!!!!
