Thoughts?

Should I stick with the bigger scale elephant fabric pictured or stick with original plan and get smaller scale? I like this one, but what will it look like in a twin size quilt?
Ahh decisions, decisions!

:-)

One other question..
Wondering what it would be like to have a larger square in the middle with elephant/as fabric and then the rest of the quilt either strips or smaller squares?

Ummmm..
I can see this is going to keep me up at night!

Last one, I promise ;-)

The blue fabric is a duvet cover we haven't used in ages - I have enough fabric to so backing for the two quilts - should I throw some into the front or is it too contrasting?

Ok.. Back to mommy duty!

Thank you!!

Contrast is good. It directs your eye to different parts of the quilt so your eye is drawn there. Without contrast, your eye has nowhere to rest. So, yes, I would use the darker color too. And yes you could use a large center square and then do smaller strips around it as borders to frame it like a picture if you want. There are no hard and fast rules that can't be broken. Some of it is an experience thing.

Thanks, Kay!!

Started cutting fabric last night with Sofia. Turns out that this is a great math practice for a 3rd grader!!
How many 12" block do we need for our quilt and how many blocks can we get out of each yard?
Great fun!!
Started hand piecing today. We will see if I last at doing it by hand. I forgot how much I enjoy the quiet and focus of hand sewing :-)
Marking seams, pinning, and sewing each side/ seam is taking about 10 minutes. It's punchy, bright, and fun and - most importantly, my daughter thinks it's awesome :-)
I'll post pictures when I'm at least 1/2 way through the top.. (Total will be 42 blocks)

That's great that your daughter is enjoying this quilt project also. Love it when a project has something for everyone.

I'm planning one for our short Queen in our Safari.

I too am a quilter- we just picked our 2014 30ft international Signature yesterday! My husband already teases me that I can't fit my longarm in it, but I hope to take piecing projects along on our trips. I've already made a top for the AS bed... Just need to quilt it. And last night when we parked the AS for the first time, I grabbed the new pillows so I could re-cover them. That got a major eye roll! Haha! Hope to meet you all on the road!

I picked up a new quilt magazine over the weekend that a friend had found for me: Fresh Quilts. This is the premiere issue (spring/summer 2014). It has the cutest pincushions in it that look just like vintage Airstreams or Scotties. I'm planning on making one to display in our trailer. The magazine itself isn't my style, I'm more traditional with colors, etc. but the pincushions are just the cutest! I'll post a pic when I get the pincushion done.

Cool, Kay!

I don't have the magazine yet, but I went to this web page:

http://www.fresh-quilts.com

and if you look at the cover REALLY close, you can see that cute little pincushion!

Let's make this a challenge!!!!!

Check in

Hi Everybody!

I am embarrased to say I have not checked in with you guys in a few months! What are you trying to finish up before spring, any irons in the fire? Im working on a modern art quilt right now (pictured), Im almost done quilting it but it has taken a backseat to painting walls and redoing two bedrooms in the house, spring cleaning, seed starting and such.

Samyjam that tangerine fabric with the elephants pulling the campurr is uber cute!

Post in progress pics of your projects!

Great Quilt

Love that new modern quilt Jezibels, and the Airstream pincushion. Isn't it wonderful that quilting encompasses such a broad range of styles? Something for everyone. I tend to make both more traditional and somewhat modern quilts, so love both.

We've been traveling this winter and my little Singer Featherweight has once again been my faithful travel companion. LOVE being able to sew and quilt while on the road!

Hi Kay,
Where did you find the adorable fabric (elephant pulling a trailer)? My husband was searching through the forum last night and found your thread. He just told me about fellow quilters! Yay! I have found others that share my obsession! Quilting AND Airstreams!

I'm not Kay but try spoonflower.com she directed me to it also. That fabric has gotten so many compliments Kay might want to copyright and make custom pillows.
