J,

It turned out to be about 12x12 but I didn't plan. I did know that I wanted it to fit in the trailer in a specific spot. When we were away this past weekend, I stopped in small town quilt shop looking for, well, anything. After casually mentioning the little project, they insisted I bring it in. They brought out the mag and loved seeing the two. It wasn't hard. For the first time, I did use a glue stick - for the little lights.

Go for it and then share it!!!!

B

All AS quilters should make them!!! We have very talented people out there!!

Jez,

Can't wait to see what you make!

As a side note, I'm headed into Chicago this month, I heard about Vogue on Roosevelt as well as Quiltology in Lincoln Park. Any suggestions on quilt/fabric craft shops with "souvenirs" I could take home? (love fabrics from other cities).

I was visiting a friend in burbs last month and went to Gentler Times. Not a huge selection, but , of course, brought home a few things.

Thanks,

B

I can also recommend Vogue Fabrics in Evanston if you are heading to the northern part of Chicago. They usually have a large selection of batik remnants at great prices as well as quilting fabrics. Most of their fabrics are for clothing, costumes and home decor, but you can find quilting fabrics. It is a pretty amazing place with multiple rooms that ramble on and on. I always see women from many cultures purchasing cloth and often costume designers as well. So going to Vogue is a cultural experience as well as a fabric buying experience. If you are a seamstress, you may find yourself in heaven there.

Let me know if you are going to Chicago's northern or western suburbs. I can give you the names of quilt shops to visit. Quiltology is a very small, but fun shop. They moved to a new location a couple of years ago, so make sure you have the right address. The Chicago suburbs are where the majority of quilting shops are located.

The Evanston Vogue is right off the Purple line--only a train ride away from downtown Chicago. Let me know if you need directions.

Enjoy your visit.

I wish I could steer you towards a really rockin quilt shop but any that I have been to have been very limited in their fabrics. Most of my fabric is pieces Ive collected thru the years, purchased from estate sales and Joann Fabrics stores or Fat Quarter Shop (online). Have a great time while your here the weather is beautiful and cool - its only 70 today!

Absolutely adorable!! LOVE IT!!! That lucky baby will start the trailer love early! And the quilt is great. The colors are super!!! And the pompoms! just sweet!

Oh, and on the Chicago front, we just got back this morning. The weekend was a little toasty but a fun weekend with the family in the city. When I landed I hopped off the Orange, dropped the bag at the hotel and popped back on the brown to Diversy and checked out the Quiltology shop. yup, little, but quaint. Perhaps the smallest shop I've ever been in. They are closing shortly and had a table of fq for $1 so I picked up a few souvniers I prob didn't need. Ate a little something then met my hubs in little italy for drinks with work friends. That was the extent of the fabric stuff for the weekend which was fine. It was about the fam.

We had a blast thought eating and walking throughout the weekend. Hit off the beat places rather than the touristy. BUt got enough sun and missed most of the rain.

Looking forward to returning. A great place to meet friends for a fun weekend, too.

Can't wait to see what you create next!

Thanks for sharing,

B

Yesterday, I finished this log cabin quilt for our AS. I call this a 'free' quilt because I used only fabric out of my stash. Well, I did buy one spool of thread for the quilting.
