Thank you for the explanation and closeup views! This is stunning and uniquely done--wonderful I like the dimension you added to the fish at the top, as if it is jumping right out of the water. What a lucky guy to get this. ~G

Doll Quilt and Doll Pillow

This was a quick (one day) tickertape doll quilt and matching pillow I just finished for a little ones 3rd birthday. I have to admit Im loving the 3D feel of tickertape, plus its a way to use your scrap stash.

Quilting

I'm so glad I found this thread! Although after seeing the pictures- I'm feeling a little amaturish! I'm just finising my first full size quilt- I've only done baby quilts before this. I chose for my first big project a pinwheel quilt from the Smithsonian collection- that started with 2" triangles- and ends up as a queen sized quilt! Yep, I'm crazy AND I'm hand quilting it. I have the uncontrolable urge to strangle whoever invented "stitch in a ditch!" Glad to know I have other quilters out there to admire and shamelessly steal from!!!

Stupid question that I have to ask.

Hi, I was wondering about cleaning or washing these quilts. Could I [if I had one] wash a quilt in my washing machine without it shrinking, distorting, or falling apart? One time, I washed a Queen comforter in hot water and put it in a hot dryer. When I was done with it, it was too small for a Single size bed. Wife laughed, but was not happy about it.

That's Phoenix, he was a severe abuse/neglect case that now lives at my children's center, and is spoiled rotten to make up for his previous life! The third grade girls carry his higness around on a satin pillow.

I was just catching up on all the posts, and I'd also like to say:
I sew on a singer from the 40's- andI love it because I sew custom leashes and collars, and it goes right through 3 layers of denim!
And I think y'all should know- I was a professional bra fitter for 20 years- so let me know if I can help with the custom bra sewing adventure!

@ Carmilla, so great to see the hand quilting art still being pursued! What kind
of trailer are you looking for?
@ Jezi, love the doll set! That is so precious!

Love the quilting AS thread (ha ha thread). I am starting on mine this next week. I am inspired and have one big empty Spring break to start on it... NO EXCUSES

Smiles,

Ticker tape quilt and quilt washing

I had not heard of a ticker tape quilt before, and yours is so cute I had to run to the net and look up the technique right away. Awesome way to use up scraps, and I love the bright and happy colors for a child's play quilt - perfect! Now I know what I can do with that giant box of scraps I've been saving for 'someday'.

Re: washing quilts....hmmm...you're a lucky man to have a wife with a sense of humor. The material from which they are made would be the biggest determining factor in washing a quilt, and yes, most of them can be washed, but GENTLY....boiling water and scorching dryer is not my definition of 'gentle'. My flyfishing quilt was washed after finishing using Retayne, to ensure the colors would not bleed in a later wash, and the son was instructed on cold-water wash and gentle-temp dryer.

Pink-
I am looking for anything over 24, and under 30- and pretty much a shell. I have 2 years to finish my current job here, and then the 4 girls in my photo and I are going to take a couple months off to head our way up to Alaska. I want to build the inside from the floor up- since sadly, most airstreams are not designed to house four big dogs! I'm looking to buy after the summer is over.

Happy National Quilting Day!

Cool caterpillar Pink1! He is out enjoying the sun, we have a bright sunny day here in Chicago, its about 50 degrees and I put all my garden sprouts outside in the greenhouse to harden off a bit.

Happy National Quilting Day 2011 everyone!

What are you working on today?

Wonderful, having a National Quilting Day and friends to celebrate it with! (I know, ending with a preposition and all that) This morning I went to a Thimbleberries meeting, saw a demonstration of Hunter's Star in scrappy set and a three color set--so different in effect. Members brought quilt after quilt to share, products of our awful blizzardy snowed-in winter Some good things came of this winter's weather after all. I'm working on embroidered wild flower blocks (a new one for twelve months) for our local Runge Conservation Center Nature's Needlers Quilting Group and also applique blocks for a Geese in the Rose Garden quilt. Sore fingers!! Who else is sewing/quilting and what? ~G

Running Quilt

Imgreenfield--Love the fish Quilt!!! Carmilla---Love you puppy dog! My cat "Dempsey" would love to play with him. I haven't read all the thread but I bet not many men are involved with quilting but count me in!! I have run alot of Marathons in that past twenty some odd years and needed to do something with all the shirts. For the past three years I have cut the shirts, ironed them and apply an interfacing on each square. It took alot of time to arrange the squares to look good, but I am gaining on it! I fess up, I do not sew so I had a nice lady sew the top pieces together and now another lady is quilting the top to the backing. I should have the quilt back soon. You ladies do some really nice work! Don
