Hi, Pat! We went to the first Can Opener Rally at Top Hill Preserve, and finally were able to make reservations to attend again this year. However, prudence is telling us we should wait til warmer mid-February to spend time on the Gulf, so we will probably cancel tomorrow, with REAL regret. If we break loose and head south the next day or two, I'll look for you there. Enjoy...it's a gorgeous resort and beach. ~G

So, what is everyone doing, quilting, during the New Year's Day sports frenzy? I usually find a quiet cubbyhole somewhere in the house and read the day away. Today however, I carried my little Featherweight and all my sewing "stuff" into the family room, set up my sewing station including a little table with tiny iron and pad, and spent the day- in the middle of all the football -cutting and then piecing a small quilt I'm making for our nearby Girls' Town. We took a pile of PieceMakers' (church) quilts there just before the holiday and the lady in charge was so excited. A young teen was due to arrive momentarily, very distraught, and the lady thought one of the quilts would be a wonderful warm welcoming gift for her. I went way out of my own comfort zone to select fabrics for this rather simple quilt. I taught 8th grade English and remember well some angry, unhappy teens, and I remember the love of black and neon pinks, greens, blues, and purples that so many girls liked in their clothes. I found a base fabric in a wild paisley, black background with all the above neon colors; selected two companion fabrics in a neon turquoise batik and a bright yellow/white dots; found a companion black with all the colors dots for the inner border, binding, and back. I'm going to go blind, but I can see some unhappy eyes sparkling one of these days when she receives this little quilt. That's what I'm doing this weekend. What about all of you? Happy New Year 2011 and best wishes for many exciting quilting projects, some enjoyed while you travel in your Airstreams! ~G

I was hoping to get into some quilting this weekend, but we're doing something else close to my heart: putting new granite tile on my kitchen counters. Can't complain! I'm lucky in that hubby is NOT a sports fan! Only game we tend to watch is Army/Navy, unless the Olympics are on.......

Placemats and Picnic Tablecloth

Im dreaming up making a picnic table tablecloth to get ready for the 2011 camping season, with placemats to match.

I checked my stash and found some vintage 60's-70's canvas and some 10 year old canvas kitchen valances, stay tuned!

Ok Quilters/Sewers.... where have we all been? I've been working on a baby quilt, the flower garden quilt, and a Kincade Painting puzzle.

Now I've got a question. This goes back to when Paula(foiled again) and I were having a discussion about replacing my 9410. I have finally decided to get a "new" sewing machine. Paula recommended the 306K. Which I still haven't ruled out but after some research I found it's a bit more machine than I really need for my quilting, most of the ones I've seen on ebay tend to be pricey, and I haven't found one on craiglist yet. I tend to be cheap about my machine purchases....

I am looking for an older zigzag machine and I am hoping for some recommendations. The 500A Rocketeer caught my eye.. and there seems to quite a few available (good or bad thing?). I tend to favor the older singers and haven't found a metal singer I haven't liked. However, I am not against an older Kenmore if they come with a zigzag stitch. My mom had one in a cabinet that I sewed on for years that I gave away when my husband bought the 9410 (hindsight...anyone). Yes it was olive green and would have gone well with the counter in the A/S. I just need it to be somewhat portable..... ie.. not cabinet.

Help....
