Keep on Quilting!
Whitelight - Yes, I've met David McCallum once before. I have a few featherweight books already. I've been purchasing and cleaning them up to resell for a few years now. I only have four right now. Two I plan to keep and two that I'll be selling in the next few weeks. After those are gone I probably won't be buying any more.

My favorite is one from Canada that was manufactured in Scotland. It has a scroll faceplate and it is the smoothest and quietest FW I've ever seen.

They're great little machines - perfect for an Airstream!

It's unfinished, I am guessing it's less than 1/4 the way done but in order to keep the momentum of posting going on this thread (which is my favorite thread). I thought I'd share some of my ongoing projects. This is literally a scrap quilt top. It has no definite finish time and it's paper pieced.

Anyone else got pictures of ongoing projects?

This is a baby boy quilt in progress. The ninepatch blocks are part of the top/bottom design. Been working on it out on the picnic table. Hopefully will be able to get to it today. Lots to do. Rosie's getting a workout.

These are all so great. I personally cant quilt, but I have a few friends that can, so if I buy the fabric, Im sure I could get one of them to make it for me. I plan on having an airstream quilt!

Thumbs up

Hi Laura, of course you can quilt, you just have not done one before now. Give it a try. It doesn't have to be complicated and it's fun!

If you can do this

You are golden!!! In fact you could even use iron-on material for your applique pieces. I realize the quilters in this thread are far from novices but the energy and fun of a first project is something we have all experienced. Don't be intimidated. Your expertise will develop as with any art or skill. You will enjoy seeing your progress and the bonus is, it's all good. While there are plenty of trends and sophisticated and varied methods and techniques it's all about expressing your creativity. You choose the tools and methods and patterns that appeal most to you and you just go with it, learning as you go. There are definitely tricks that can be shared but there is no wrong way to do it. A good first project may be the pillow or even a unique sweatshirt design, then you will see if you like what you have decided upon before buying all the fabric and committing to a large project. Also if you have fabric remnants or articles of clothing with special memories you can use that! If you want to look over some basic information there are many tutorials online. Here's one. http://www.ehow.com/topic_971_quilting.html Now go forth and CREATE!

And Laura, lots of fabric shops offer quilting classes and make a sampler with guided help from the instructor. I have taken a few various craft classes and they have always been very sociable and fun to attend and in addition to personal attention and encouragement you are usually offered discounts at the store. I have taken a quilting class and a ceramics class and a stenciling class and looked forward to each week and getting together with the others. I am sure many here have been to quilting bees and will attest to the positive and special dynamic of working together. It's quite nice if you have the time to do it. I know you are very busy with school and work and Airstreaming. You could probably post your project right here and get all the advice you need too!!!

Laura, if I can do it, you can! Seriously.

Here's the progress pic on my baby quilt. I have a creative blog, too.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who works that way! I can't wait to see the finished skirt!

My first quilt was all on my own. No one in my family quilted and if I can figure it out.. anyone can!! You can buy precut fabric squares, start small and work your way toward finished. I still have problems that I have to figure out! Sometimes the same ones over and over (mitered corners are not my BFF!).
