That thread pretty much covers it. But keep an eye on it with the 2 Supreme Court rulings lately - D.C. and the Peoples Republic of Chicago. I also read some time ago in an NRA article that OFTEN but not always, a gun in your trailer is considered the same as a gun in your home, and as such, does not consider vehicle requirements, like unloaded, locked, and ammo separated from gun, etc. Know State laws as you travel.
WE do, but in 40 years of boondocking, rest areas, truck stops etc. Have never felt a need for it.
As far as I know, you can not take a handgun into Canada, or at least not with out jumping through hoops.
I do have a carry permit, but regard it more as quality type of ID that shows you have been checked out by law enforcement
