The Q

Hi Roger,
January is a great time to be in Q!

I camp with a pod of Airstreams and SOB's at the La Posa North area.

There is great cell service in the area and by Jan, I'll have my 25ft vertical up.

The first time I went, I felt a bit overwhelmed and
"ScrapIrony" showed me the ropes.

I would be happy to extend you a rope.
Just PM me with your Email and I'll give you my phone #!

Best,
Michael

Get in touch with the Nor Cal unit WBCCI. They have had a "gathering of friends" on BLM land in January every year for the past eight years that I know of, perhaps longer. That gathering is always a good time and is usually preceded by a caravan to Quartzsite.

We're aiming for early November this year...It's already hit single digit temps(3F) up here...snowed several times...I'm ready for some Q-town burn and sand in my sandals.
Michael...? Same place...?
4CU is having a rally around T-Day(see under forums upcoming rallies), but that doesn't mean the only time or place to get together...I can honestly see an Airstream community forming in Q-town on an annual basis...kind of an ebb and flow sort of thing...is anyone interested in this kind of thing...?

Hay 4CU TTQ

Maybe the 4CU could work something out with this Nor Cal unit.I didnt know they had "Gathering of friends" in Q.
Idea of a Airstream site in Q where Airstreamers could come and go as they like all winter. With postings like this on the forum might get some interest showen.Life's too good a joke to keep to yourself".

Nor Cal gathers on BLM land east of town off the south frontage road about 3/4 - 1 mile. Way off the highway. Quiet and nice, a large, flat, open area. They don't get there until the RV stuff starts happening in the big tent. Some stay a couple of weeks, some just a few days. We have done both. Usually have a happy hour, some come, some don't. Folks bring wood for camp fires.

A phone call brings the pump out truck for the group. Some bring small generators to re-charge or use microwaves etc.

Nice, laid back time.

Thanks for all the replies. Val and I have been to Q for 3 or 4 years in a row, every year in a different RV, stayed close to main area drycamp $5 per nite. This will be our first time there in AS so would like to stay where other alluminumites are hanging out. It sounds like norcal and 4cu may get together in one place, let me know where. Thanks,

NorCal...it sounds like ya'll are docking at Scaddon(Scannon?) Wash...we were considering Road Runner, as it's further from highway and still a 14 day free...I will be getting a 7 month pass for the duration...it includes access to the fresh water and dump station...I'll make dumpster runs for the group(also included in the permit)...t'would be nice to group-gather somewhere trade stories, happy hours, pot lucks...what say you?

Yes, I believe it is the Scaddon Wash area. We went there with Nor Cal several years. Only one time were we asked to get the 14 day permit. One morning while fixing breakfast, a ranger knocked on the trailer and issued us a permit. He did the same for all the rest of the group.

It seems that there was a large group of "rainbow people", known for stealing things in the middle of the night, camped not far away. We think they were issuing everyone permits so that, at some point, they could force those people to move on. We had never had to get permits before, and were never limited in the length of our stay.

We do lock up and make sure things are put away at night.

Yep, unsecured generators have been a popular item over the last few years...bolt-cutters make cables and chains kinda useless...friends in groups make for good security...how far off 10 did ya'll camp? I could see a rally over there, but I'd rather long-term in Tyson Wash...close to the dump/Fresh water station included in the fee, and far enough away from the crowds to see the stars.

We have spent as little as a few days when we had to go home due to an emergency there, to nearly three weeks.

I keep our little gen in the bed of the truck which has a locking cover, When I want to run the gen, I just open the cover and plug in. More secure, and much quieter that way. No chains or locks to get cut, nothing sitting around to draw attention.

And yes, it is probably much more secure with a group. There has never been a time when all wanted to go into town at the same time.

Also, some keep a "friend" in their trailer.

I have never had a problem.

Quartzsite

Hi, we have heard about this place and I think we would like to go, [with the Aluminum crowd] but we aren't WBCCI members.

It's a gathering of friends. We have friends who do not have Airstreams who have gone along. One friend, with a fairly large motorhome, has me leave my AC plug near, and when he runs his gen, he plugs me in.
If you want to go, go. If yo don't care for it, leave.
The only rule is that there are no rules. Just relax and enjoy.

Mike,

I'm shocked that you even know how to spell "Steadfast requirement"

Last time I was with the group, I think there were only 2 WBCCI members.

Come as U go, go as U leave.
and dems da rools...

Does anyone have GPS coordinates for this area? From the times we have driven through this area the place appears to be HUGE and I am not sure how we would ever find anyone.

Is anyone there in late February to early March?

Don't have any GPS info. The Airstream group turns right off the road about 1/4 mile past the guard house entrance, and is about a mile south and perhaps 1/4 mile east. There is a fairly well worn "dirt road/beaten path" to follow.

By the end of February, early March. I would guess that maybe 80% of Quartzsite visitors have moved on. All of the Nor Cal unit will be gone by the time the Hobo Rally starts in Blythe, CA.

Anyone else venture a guess?

IT IS HUGE, but location is a relatively easy thing to do...there will always be someone who can meet you and guide you in, if the signs aren't enough...cell phones work out there, so contact is...well...easy...we get great wifi, also.
We intend to be there thru mid-April...temperature is a relevant factor in our departure date. Apathy might also be relevant...there tends to be a very relaxed atmosphere and a lifestyle to suit...

I had to look it up in the blue book, or maybe it was robert's rules of order...might have just been a figmentation, like most other steadfast requirements...what do I know...? I'm just a 60 y/o wanna-be kazoo player with a fire ring fetish, a flamingo fetish, an appreciation for desert art, a fondness for rocks, and a coolection of individuals I am proud to call friends, tho' I'm not sure what they call me in absentia...Lordy I'm lookin' forward to the desert!!!
