Pray for those in Punta Gorda

I'm hearing that there's many, many people missing from trailer parks in Punta Gorda, FL, following Hurricane Charley last night. We're keeping them and their families in our prayers.

Watching the news last night, it showed Charley to be an extremely strong force. We add our prayers to yours!!!

Saw pictures from a local news website showing several campers blown off their pads, laying on their sides, including what appeared to be a 60's era A/S. I imagine the value of our rigs just went up a little (not the prefered way to have it happen).

The Charlotte county EOC (emergency ops center) as well as 4 fire stations were damaged/destroyed. The local cable news is showing widespread damage to buildings, power lines, trees, etc.

As I recall, there is an Airstream park somewhere in that area. It's called Paradise Park, Paradise Valley, something like that. I sure hope our fellow Airstreamers got out of the way.

I have taken some photos of the damage of my home, and the damage to my trailer's home (it lives on a farm a little North of me). I will put them in my photos section for a brief time, if anyone wants to view them. Also, we have a Forums member in Punta Gorda, and another from Arcadia. Both places very badly damaged. I hope they are both alive and well.

Nature can be rather destructive. My prayers go out to all in the area of the storm for comfort and safety in their time of need.

I lived in Arcadia until 2001, found out today the house I owned made it through with little damage, it is around 100 yrs old and went through Donna in 1960. Anyway, talked to my daughter and she said a building that they were using for a shelter collapsed with 1800 people in it. The city trailer park was leveled. Several houses without roofs, and nearly all the big beautiful oak trees are down. That is all I know now but should have some pictures soon. Marvin

if anyone feels like sending a few dollars down south, here's one place: www.redcross.org

it was a painless transaction charged to my credit card, and turns out it's tax deductible.

Just an FYI, the large water tower that welcomed you to Arcadia is flat on the ground. I am watching a video right now showing Captiva Island, which has been cut in two halves, with a 1200 foot pass between the two halves.

Here is another organization, if for some reason you don't want to donate to the first:

Terry:

Just an aside from an old Florida native. Many of the passes in Florida were developed following the passage of a hurricane. "New Pass" and "Midnight Pass" - both in Sarasota County - are good examples. I had not heard about the "new" pass for Captiva. My prayers also go out to the victims of Hurricane Charley.
