I am as well! When your ready PM me about RVW (Rving Women). We lost my father 10 years ago and my Mother sold their class A and is now in a B+ Born free and still traveling at 76. RVW helped her out a lot and is the reason she is still on the road today. I'm very proud of her and it's a great group!

We are very sadden by the news of the loss of Doug. We followed your adventures for that last few years and took heed to the advice or opinions Doug offered. He will be missed.
May the Lord comfort you and your family during this time of loss. Your strength has been amazing during this difficult time and we pray for that continued strength for you Maggie.

Deepest Sympathy with continued prayers,

A somewhat difficult night, for several reasons, but I feel comforted always by the outpouring of love and support I have received, here and elsewhere. I draw on it in the dark.

I have believed for many years that some people come enter our lives for a specific reason, and that has never been so true as in this last week. I see them, and know they have been a gift to me during this dreadful time.

From GA all the way home, before and since, I have had help, intervention at times, support and comfort.

Doing okay, getting some things done, the adult children have just been amazing.

Thanks to you all.

Much love,

Maggie

A Time to Mourn...

Maggie,

I just learned of your loss. I've prayed for the warmth of God to comfort you.

Comforting words from Max Lucado:

Solomon said, "There is a time to mourn!" Give yourself some. Face your grief with tears, time, and one more-face your grief with truth. God has the last word on death. And if you listen, He will tell you the truth about your loved ones. They've been dismissed from the hospital called Earth. You and I still roam the halls, smell the medicines. They meanwhile, inhale springtime.

You miss them like crazy, but can you deny the truth? They have no pain, doubt, or struggle. They really are happier in heaven. Reunion is a splinter of an eternal moment away. I Thessalonians 4:13 says that there is no need for you "to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope."

God understands. He knows the sorrow of a grave. He buried His Son. But He also knows the joy of resurrection. And by His power, you will too.

Maggie, I’m very sorry for your loss.

Sincerely,

Geven

Remax gal,

No need to apologize; your posts are not contradictory.

Yes, Doug has passed away, and yes, Doug has come through this as good as new. We will see him down the road.

The Peace of the Lord be with all of you.

Maggie, you have been a tower of strength. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Maggie,

I am so sorry for your family's loss. Your lovely words on his life - one so well-lived and loved - is a wonderful testament to him. Remember, in those moments where you may be feeling alone, that he now holds you in an eternal embrace from his place in heaven. Love to you and the family from our Ohana.

Found an over-the-counter sleep aid stuck away, took it last night and slept 10 1/2 hours. A good thing.

Neighbors have been over and the obituaries are in the papers today.

Final plans made for the funeral and a light meal after. Hard times bring out the best and worst in people.

I think the little church where the service will be held will be full to bursting. I can't find a picture of it to post. It is on the National Register of Historic Places, and Doug and his family went there when he was small.

The niece in law who is singing at the service will sing the Irish Blessing graveside. It will be lovely. "A simple service for a simple man", Doug would say.

Doing okay here, getting things put away and our little house in order. One of my daughter's close friends came over yesterday, brought me "comfort things for you" she called it. Such a sweet girl.

Getting back to activities of daily living, watched the news last night as we always did. That missing jetliner is incredible. "Build a better mousetrap and the mice get smarter", Doug would say.

So appreciate the love and support from everyone here and elsewhere.

Maggie

Maggie:

It is amazing the strength we receive when we are faced with difficult times. I handled the arrangements for both my father and then my mother and when I look back, I know that, although I am a strong person, I was gifted with extra strength during those times. The grief came later.

I have been praying for you and for Doug and hope to meet you when you decide to get back on the road so that I may give you a huge hug.

Be well and be safe.

That is the church, and what an extraordinary wealth of information recorded in that video! I have sent the photo and video on to my and Doug's children. Thank you so much for finding that picture and information!

I actually was inside that church some years ago. We went by there to visit the grave of Doug's father and a man happened by who not only knew and recognized Doug but was caretaker and had a key to the church! It has not been in regular use for many years, but well maintained and exactly as Doug remembered it.

The Charlie Hayes mentioned in the video was surely related to Doug, may have been his great-grandfather, I am not certain. The speaker mentioned him being in "the Guard", likely the Home Guard during the Civil War, so he must have been too old or not otherwise physically able to fight, The Hayes people came over to Iowa from Ireland after the second potato famine, Doug has always said.

I have Doug's clothing picked out, including my favorite tie, warm socks and underwear. Doug hated to be cold. We had just bought him a pair of boxers from The Black Dog store, so those are going with him....a little bit of the Miss Lily he fell in love with in spite of himself.

Going to the funeral home today, ordering flowers, meeting with Doug's mother and the pastor, etc.

it is raining, and that is fitting, Doug would say, as "it's raining in my heart".

Thank you all.

Maggie
