portable ice machines

Hi! Anyone have experience with portable ice machines? The stand alone kind you plug in, add water and it produces 25-30 pounds of ice per day? I am looking to buy one and would like to hear what brands are good and what to stay away from. Thanks!

I have a Magic Chef. It works well, produces ample ice. It is a bit loud. Use it at home mostly when we have company and need lots of ice. Also during the summer months. We don't have an icemaker in our fridge, so it helps out when needed. We have not taken it with us camping, and I am not ssure I can get RustyRivet to add that to our need to take with us list.

We don't have one but we know 4 Forums & 4CU members who do...give them a PM...

LHall (Louis & Sergio)
JulianneJ (Julianne)
dogpound (Bob & Lou)
boondocker (Rodney)

They are pretty cool little machines... (pun intended).

Buy an ice machine...and make new friends at the campground!

I have one, got it for christmas. Its one of the Emerson ones I think. I guess all told it has about three weeks of use on it. They do work, the ice is just below freezing so the cubes tend to be wet if that makes sense. I agree with the noise comment. So far I am pretty happy with mine.

Mine is in my trailer so I can't tell you right off the bat what brand it is but I love it. Seemed like I was always going and buying ice while camping now I don't have to.
I really lucked out because mine retailed for $399.99 but I picked it up at Tuesday Morning for $75.

Target has them on sale every two or three months regular $139 on sale $99.

Works great and if mine was to quit today I would buy another at the $139 if not on sale.
We have had this one 2 years with no problems and use distilled water to make ice.

Thanks to everyone for the great feedback. Will invest in one for the season! Looking forward to having ice for beverages! Of the adult kind of course!

I have one too and we love it. We always take ours with us. It is well worth the money. Got ours from home depot because I wanted the stainless steel look. They are on the heavy side to carry but not too bad.
