Pierce Arrow Travelodge

Lynn and I were volunteers at the Pebble Beach Concour d'Elegance on Aug 15th. On our free time we toured the exhibits and found this duo of mid-30s Pierce Arrow Travelodges with Pierce Arrow tow vehicles. One TL was in need of restoration but the larger one was perfect. We were actually allowed to step inside for a look see. Early RVers did have some luxuries albeit expensive.

Nice! What a treat to get to step into those. Beautiful tow vehicles too!

Wow. Pierce Arrows were made in Buffalo. When I lived there in the 1970's, the plant was still standing, but mostly abandoned. I believe there were a few businesses in some buildings and a theater that did experimental theater.

That's how millionaires went camping in 1938! Thanks for the memories.

Here's the name tag on a gutted example, sitting in the yard at TrailerWorks a few years ago.

Its hard to beat the warmth a birch interior. Glass paneled cabinet doors to boot.

Stunning!
Any idea on who did the restoration and how long it took?

Absolutely stunning.

My brother rebuilt a very early Pierce Arrow a few years ago for a wealthy business owner. I think he said it was from 1913, but I could be mistaken. It was an incredible machine. The wheels had wood spokes and were about 4' tall. The intake manifold looked like a straightened-out french horn:all brass, and the carburetor was all brass and glass. The trunk was a trunk, like an old bombay chest with a lift-up lid, fastened just behind the rumbleseat. It looked like a work of industrial art.
I'm still waiting for a ride in the Redwood city 4th of July parade. One of these years....

Pierce Arrow built the sort of cars Rolls Royce would have built if they had the money.
