One of my other hobbies

One of my other hobbies (besides fixing my Overlander, my house, my old cars, etc) Is fixing and customizing old bicycles. Many in the NEU have seen me riding my custom bike around the campgrounds we've met at. Boy's bike is pretty cool but not custom, and Wife's bike is a retro looking new bike.

While Boy and I were building a bike for him I thought it might be fun to work on another bike for me. It started out as just being an old frame with some new parts but has evolved into and Airstream Bike. I even built an aluminum tank for it, Olympic rivets and all. Here is he near finished product:

(my apologies for my messy kitchen)

I'm fairly happy with how it turned out. I only have a couple of doo dads to add to it and then a chain and I'll be riding it next Spring at the first rally I attend.

hope you like seeing it.

p.s. here's the bike that Boy and I built with me on one of my other creations.

Hey, is that an old '70's "chopper" shifter for the three speed? Love it! I saw a pic of an extended Electra the other day (with an extra cycle on the rear)... looked so cool!

Scroll to the bottom for a daylight pic of his wife's bike.

Love the rat rod style you've got going on there.
Keep pedaling!

Thanks everybody. The frame is a late 70's I think and the shifter is an NOS from the early 70's. Everything else is newish. If you like old bikes (customs, rat rods, etc.) check out a site I've found recently: * RAT ROD BIKES *. Very fun and all are ladies and gentlemen too.

Marc, what daylight pic are you referring to? Funny you mention Electra. That is one of my other bikes and what my Wife's bike is. Great Bikes!!

Oh yeah. Bike rubbish. Love that site. I visit every once in awhile. he takes great photos. His Electrabikes are great. I wish i could afford an Extracycle. It would be very convenient to carry Boy's gear to baseball practice.

Cool Born to be Wild!

That Airstream bike is way cool and you and the boy look like you were in the movie "Easy Rider" together.

I think many forget what a tragic ending that movie has.... Let's hope your bikes do not end the same way.

what a passion can do...

Thank you Balrgn...

If you want to know what a passion can give you as great moments... another vidéo and you'll all understand this time... it's made in USA and a friend told me : it's ONLY in America... That's right. Impossible elsewhere !

Skip,

Don't hang any other bikes off the back...don't want to see you with any frame sag issues.....

Cool Bikes...Are you planning to add an awning too?

If the weight of a bike can cause your rear to sag, you better not be walking in the back... sorry man, but I am not buying that one. Wally dragged those trailers from capetown to cairo and some of them even had two tires hanging from them. I think that is a complete myth and those that believe it are entitle to their beliefs, but I feel they are grounded in fallacy. This spring I will hang two tires off my rear just to prove my point.

I happen to agree with you Frank. I don't hang my bikes off the back for two reasons. The possibility of theft and they'll block access to my bumper storage.
