Speaking of somber....
Here's Garnet Rogers with a medley of Night Drive (his tune honoring his brother Stan Rogers after his death at just 33) merged in a medley with Stan's outstanding Northwest Passage. I saw Garnet do this live in CT several years ago and could barely stand after the show for grief and exhaustion. I felt like he was inviting us in to a family remembrance ceremony and it was an honor to say the least.

Thanks, great stuff. Here is Night Drive with better sound.
"I had a dream; it seemed so real
Its passing left me shaking
I saw you're here behind the wheel
On this very road I'm taking"
And Stan Rogers with the classic Northwest Passage:
Finest kind . . .

On The Road Again -- Music Channel II
Yes - the audio was terrible - sorry - but the merge of those 2 particular songs by Garth is practically a religious experience for me.
Thanks for posting those two!

Don't know if you have been watching the new Showtime series Roadies, but it is great IMO. The first season just ended, and rumor is that it will not be renewed for next year. Too bad. If you have cable, you can probably find it on your On Demand channels, if included in the subscription.
The music, and older artists who appear live, are amazing. Nicely filmed and of course the main theme -- taking a bit of liberty here -- being on the road again -- resonates with our community IMO.
"You don't find the music, the music finds you . . . "
[Which is what I really like about the OTRA I and II threads.]

In keeping with the more somber tone of this OTRA Two thread, this Dylan keeper came up in our music shuffle this morning. Nice to see a live version -- so young!
The Times They Are a' Changin' . . . [1964]
"Your old road is a rapidly agin' . . . " [1:48]
Amen to that!

Well
I guess the times they are a changin' -- 'cause Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize for Literature!
Watched Phenomenon last night with John Travolta, Kyra Sedgwick, Robert Duvall and Forest Whittaker. What a film!
Lots of good music, including this closing number, which starts:
When the road gets dark
And you can no longer see
Just let my love throw a spark, baby
Have a little faith in me.
You gotta watch this movie!
[click on link at top for new window, or on Play button to stay here]
The full movie is below. The most intimate love scene ever filmed with clothes on is when she shaves him at time stamp 1:21:40, but this is hard to appreciate unless you watch the entire film IMO. The song above starts after 1:51 in the film below, but I can't get a precise time right now.
Enjoy!

The first tune on this more somber thread still resonates, especially after watching Phenomenon!
Life is short.

May I Suggest?

Was thinking about a friend's wedding. This was their first dance song.
Did it last?
No.
Whatever.

Great tunes FAN and SilverGate, thanks!
I have to say that "Funny How Time Just Slips Away" sure captures the spirit of this more somber OTRA MUSIC II thread, at least for me. Look at all the talented musicians listening to Willie give a master class in pickin' and soulful recollectin', some of them with pretty wistful looks in their eyes IMO, thinking perhaps:
"Yeah, I remember those days, man . . . "
And the lyrics . . . what a tune . . .
"How's your new love?
Gee, I hope he's doin' fine
I heard ya told him
That you'd love him 'til the end of time
Well, that's the same thing that you told me
Seems like just the other day
Gee, ain't it funny how time just slips away." [*]
Amen to that last line!
Thanks again for the tunes, and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.
Peter

You're welcome, Peter (OTRA15), and thanks for posting the lyrics excerpt from "Funny How Time Slips Away"... which reminds us to cherish the moment and all whom we love and hold dear.
Yes, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

That song is an important element in the Christmas movie Love Actually, which is usually rerun on CATV this time of year. Great cast and touching performances by all, albeit a little schmaltzy at times.

The Willie Nelson number posted recently was from the Ralph Emery Country Legends series apparently. Here is another soulful number from that series, by T. Graham Brown -- Wine Into Water.
The next tune that pops up by Bobby Bare is pretty good too.
