Peter,
I haven't been around much but I noticed you posted Robert Earl Keen's "Feelin Good Again" a while back.....that song has always been dear to me, a bit on the sad side bringing back memories of nights in New England spent in local taverns where everyone knows everyone....I was there briefly many years ago with a certain someone who is now in my past.....sad....

The thing about that song is I cannot figure out if it is real or is he imagining it?.....and I believe he intends it that way.

A lot of his songs do that to me...here's one about traveling south of the border
(note the brief "sample" on the guitar right as he mentions Marty Robbins {3:43})

Good lyrics and guitar riff at 3:43, for sure. I tend not to think much more deeply than that at this stage of life!

I think his The Road Goes On Forever is also on this thread, or maybe the more somber OTRA II thread?

Thanks,

Peter

I believe it might be....one problem with these threads is they get so long that repetition happens-have you considered keeping a sort of index or list in the first post to help with this?
On the subject of REK did you know that fellow Troubadour Joe Ely was one of his influences? In fact they roomed together in college. Here's a great Joe Ely tune about traveling in a different kind of Silver Liner.....

Saw some other REK songs (Robert Earl Keen) on here but I thought this one was fitting for us leaving it all behind to just "Ride".

Thanks, another good one from him, with that "Interstate-concrete-expansion-joints-clickin'-on-by" beat, albeit at a more subdued tempo!

Thanks Brian.

Repetition is fine IMO. The link above to "Search this Thread" is pretty efficient to find other songs by the same artist, and the more general search function in the blue box above works to find dupes in other threads [not just the two OTRA Music Channel threads]. Sometimes I just go back a year or two, and listen to songs in the old posts, to appreciate the variety of everyone's tastes.

Thanks for that fine Joe Ely tune!

Peter

In keeping with the Traveling/Troubadour/Dallas theme I will put up one by Junior Brown who was mentioned earlier in this thread. A bit of trivia on Junior who hails from Cottonwood, Arizona, he created the double neck guitar he plays and calls it a guit-steel, the top is a regular guitar and the bottom a steel guitar. I watched him live here in Tucson at the Rialto and his powerful bass voice literally vibrates the chair backs. Hearing him sing you would think him a large man but on the contrary he is a smallish presence, especially when he removes his Stetson. He puts on a fantastic show that had the whole house on their feet from 20 somethings to grandparents. He is also fluent in Spanish and did an beautiful rendition of "Juan Charasquado" while playing Accordion. The first You Tube is the best recording IMHO and the second Austin City Limits recording is poor quality but a good chance to see him play his guit-steel invention.

Here's one from the past...from a little known artist....a very accurate description of those crazy long car trips taken on a shoestring budget in our younger days.......I wore out my copy

"Another sour coffee
One more piece of cardboard pie"

Hey, watch it there, who you callin' a "little known artist?"

A great tune with fine lyrics and beat . . . love the phrase "and then we'll ride" which introduces some smooth licks.

Great instrumental at the end, with those Interstate highway concrete expansion joints clickin' on by . . .

Yee Ha!

Peter

PS -- David's cover of Mr. Bojangles may be one of the best IMO.

[click on link at the top, to open a new window/frame -- good YT comments IMO]

I guess instead of "little known" I should have said "underground". Yes he did a great cover of Bojangles, thanks for the reminder, and how bout that 'lectric chair?
