Hot enough for ya?

Everywhere!

No time to head for a city IMO -- check out the car horns and jackhammers. [1:10]

From 1966 The Lovin' Spoonful with Summer In The City.

The next song that pops up on YouTube is California Dreamin' by The Mamas and Papas. Yes!

Stay Cool.

We had brake trouble Friday then we had a tire separate on Saturday but got off the freeway before it came apart so no damage. With all the trouble we had I had given up on making it to the church as I thought service was at 10 and we were not even going to make it to our camp till about 10:15, and the church was another 20 min on a dirt road and no where to turn around with a trailer. Then my wife reminded me that church started at 11, not 10. We pulled into camp, backed in and dropped the trailer, told the RV park owner the story and she said hurry up and get out of here, we will settle up when you get back from church! We made it to church with 4 minutes to spare and my poor cousin almost had a heart attack when we walked thru the door. (She has been keeping the church going and gives the Sunday sermon as well as bible study)
Makes me wonder if someone was watching over us.

Glad it worked out!

Here is a fast mandolin number to match how you probably felt gettin' to the church on time.

Johnny Staats with Catch Me If You Can. Great solo in the middle by Jerry Douglas on the dobro! [1:22]

Turn the volume up and ride . . . Yee Hah . . . !

PS -- Johnny Staats is a UPS driver by day, or at least used to be. This song was about him and his friends riding their bikes as kids, as I recall an old interview.

Thank You Peter, I'll bet you like The Dillards too. My favorite Dillards LP is Tribute to the American Duck.
I would like to share a very special song with you. Ever since I was very small hearing this song would always put me into a sort of melancholy kind of mood. The song is You Belong to Me which was recorded by many including Dean Martin and Patti Page. Jo Stafford had a big success with it followed by the Duprees.

Here is where it gets special. I have a recording of it by a girl named Amy Ross. It was recorded in a bar in Bisbee, Arizona. The recording is very rare and not many have heard it. There are no You Tubes of it. It brings a tear to my eye when I hear it, and I must play it sparingly.

The forum won't let me upload my copy but
I found a copy on Soundcloud. It is the same recording. It did not exist when I acquired my copy. https://soundcloud.com/jimigiannatti...me-by-amy-ross

It wouldn't be fair if I didn't give you the whole tragic story on Amy, here is a link to that.

Thanks Brian for Amy's great cover of that old classic You Belong To Me. I have replied in the other OTRA Music II thread, in order to keep the melancholy sad stuff over in that arena, where it is in good company [at least in my opinion ]. See Post #2 over there, also, for a similar early-leaving theme with Joey and Rory.

Have a good weekend.

Peter

Thanks Alan, that is a real nice cover of Summertime by Doc and Merle. Definitely fits the Kansas heat in Dodge City I guess! I almost made it to Merlefest with the 25' in the 1990's but a family hiccup canceled the trip. Hope to stop by one time . . . farther on down the road again . . .

Safe travels to your next waypoint . . .

Johnny Staats has another cut on that album called Mandolin Meltdown with a nice drivin' beat and fluidity IMO. I picture being on a straight local highway with grain fields going by at a good clip, windows open, making good time with no other traffic to hassle . . .

Have a good weekend!

Peter

Well since we're postin artist doubles, I will post one more David Grisman tune, this time with one of the greatest violinists (I'd say fiddle player but he wouldn't say that I think....) of all time, Mr. Stephane Grappelli.

This one is sure to put a smile on your face!

Songs about driving that you may not know…

Amanda Shaw, "Cruise," from the Album "Good Southern Girl." (But I have four albums by Amanda Shaw that I listen to while driving, whether the songs have driving as a theme or not; Cajun/zydeco music with a perky female vocalist will definitely keep you awake and alert behind the wheel!)

Sawyer Brown, "My Baby Drives a Buick," from the album "Buick." Also "Drive Away" from the album "Outskirts of Town."

Another great tune, TravlinMan -- thanks.

Welcome back Protagonist! Amanda Shaw seems like a real talent, but I could not find any videos of Cruise on YouTube. Her style definitely fits with your description. Thanks.

My first exposure to Amanda Shaw was actually a movie at the Aquarium of the Americas IMax theater, called "Hurricane on the Bayou." Amanda was still in high school when she made that movie in 2006. I made a point of downloading her albums from Amazon after that.

And because there is tremendous value in irony, I sometimes keep myself awake while driving by listening to the band called Asleep at the Wheel. Particularly their song "Miles and Miles of Texas" every time my travels take me in that direction…

Asleep at The Wheel is a fantastic band and Ray Benson can really punch out the vocals. One of my all time favorites is their live cover of Route 66 and don't forget House of Blue Lights. They also do a pretty good job on Jordan's One O'clock Jump.

Did you know that Miles and Miles of Texas was written by Diane Johnson when she was writing songs for Gene Autry in the 50's but wasn't a hit till Asleep at the Wheel covered it in 1976?
