Not necessarily a "road song" per se - but great beat, and she is absolutely another amazing genius.

Wow thanks for the great selection and variety of tunes!

KD -- great beat makes for a good road song any time IMO -- cool photo too.
King of the Road -- always welcome iconic road song.
TH Road to Nowhere -- not a dupe I think, and great video. The 80's . . . say no more . . .
Glenn's Wichita Lineman -- yup another classic . . . seeing open plains and poles . . .
Sean Colvin -- a good one, will look up the other version. She is here with James Taylor.
.....[edit -- see Post #18 here -- You Can Close Your Eyes -- see the sun and moon?]
RT VBL 1952 -- great! Gonna post it next for a repeat.
Another White Dash -- new to me but I can picture the lyrics working great for a road trip!

Thanks again for the great blast of new and interesting music this morning. Get that terlit installed and hit the road again!

Our new 1000 tri-fuel generator arrived yesterday, and I am hoping to get her broken in over the weekend. Should be just big enough to keep the batteries charged IMO.

OK here is the repeat of Richard Thompson's 1952 Vincent Black Lightning.

Good stuff all around! Thanks again SSM.

Happy Trails to all.

Ended up chasing Butterfly Boucher to David Bowie's Changes in a duet. A nice raw DB voice at 1:25.

Nice!

Rest in Peace, David Bowie . . .

Peter - terlit's in, roll pin replaced, we're ready to rumble! 😀

Question - why the repeat of the Vincent video - did it not come out right? I had problems posting one of them - can't remember which...

Just felt like highlighting his pickin' and the possibility of going to full-screen quickly. Such a clean rendition of this great song. The best part of opening the YouTube links in a new window is that you can minimize the window, and leave the tune playing in the background while doing other things. I use a laptop with a mouse, so have lots of active windows working at the same time.

PS -- Plus I forgot -- seeing the Ryman in the video is great. What a venue. Saw Nickel Creek and someone else there years ago.

Here's an outrageously fantastic version - Van Morrison and The Chieftans - it's never been better than this...

Here is a good catchy number -- just one tune -- for drivin' up into the mountains. Continuing with Lou Reid and Carolina from the other thread. The Heart of a Little Mountain Girl.

"Time passes slowly way up in the mountains . . . "

Yes.

Yee Ha!

PS -- Similar theme to Blue Ridge Mountain Song by Alan Jackson in Post 13 here.

Thanks to Vinny Boomer for the suggestion -- a classic Doobie Brothers number with a great beat. See the 20-footer thread for the lyrics.

Rockin' Down The Highway

Kind of a neat homemade video to go with the tune.

Classic Doobies for sure (see post 47) and can't beat'm on the road.

When I lived in San Diego during college in the early 70's my roommate was in the navy and was buying me a stereo on his westpac tour. I used these two albums to test speakers at the local shops...that's the sound I'm looking for. Finally settled on Sansui 3200's...good base but great upper end for the Doobie guitar sound.

also... Clapton 1970 (Clapton White as I call it)

https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...ow&Form=VQFRVP

Slunky, Blues Power, Let it Rain...awesome guitar work

Between these three 8 tracks cassettes and a few other (Eat a Peach, Skull & Roses etc) , put some serious muck miles on the ol' Westy van.

Look what he (Surf) cat dragged in.

My first board in '66 was a barge bought used from O'Neil's on 41st Ave Santa Cruz. Gve it away a month later and bought a 10' Surfboards Hawaii...double mahogany stringer...a sweet ride...never should have sold it, but the times they were a changing and short boards were the delio. When I moved to San Diego for School I bought this 7' rocket from San Diego Surf Shop on Mission Beach. Never really mastered it but had a lot of fun trying.

Dusted it off a few months ago moving stuff around for a garage sale. Pretty beat up, but can't seem to letr' go.

time to put on some Dick Dale

Thanks Bob, a great selection of tunes, and cool that you can click on the track titles to play each one directly.

I think I have actually been in that surf shop in MB . . . small world . . .

Of course the following Beach Boys' cut is iconic!

Have a good weekend.

Peter

And back to the OTRA theme a bit more . . .

A month of no music?

" Say it ain't so . . . !!! "

How about this oldie from Dire Straights with a very young Mark Knopfler on East Bound Train? [time stamp 1:13:10]

Train songs -- road songs -- same drive and simple beats -- steel wheels on the gaps in the tracks -- rubber tires on the concrete expansion joints --

The gypsy's heart beating!

[Sultans of Swing from the same era is in Post #40 BTW.]

Thumbs up

I posted this on the "Vet Fall In" thread....

It deserves a re-play during these trying times....
