Watched an A & E presentation a few nights ago about John Belushi. No question there is an Belushi/Animal House/Eugene connection. Part of the program talked about while filming Animal House, Belushi would go to the local “Eugene Hotel” now a high-rise sr. housing project. There he met/learned/absorbed the local Blues scene headed unofficially by Curtis Salgado. Salgado is still local and a living blues legend. Apparently, Belushi attributed his Blues Brothers inspiration to his association with Salgado & the Eugene Blues scene. Wow, never heard that before.
Blues…Eugene…I’m thinking Oregon Country Fair….Grateful Dead…Ken Kesey.
My wife and I were fortunate enough to catch the Blues Brothers tour when they headlined at the Concord Pavilion in the late 70’s. ta ta ta taaa ta ta ta…This cut from Winterland (no less) where they opened for the Dead at the closing of Winterland.
