Thanks Don! A great Zydeco version by Mary Chapin Carpenter. Makes ya wanna get up and do-si-do!

And George Straight's voice always cuts to the quick, doesn't it?

Peter

PS -- Speaking of dancin' how about the Texas Two Step with Dave Alvin's Rio Grande?

Yee Ha!

Thanks Don. The first time we heard the tune, the missus and I had just walked into our favorite restaurant, and it popped up on their music mix. I grabbed her and we did a couple of jitterbug twirls on the way to the table. The other diners applauded "the floor show."

I had to search the Internet to find the exact tune and artist, as all I could remember was " . . . down the Rio Grande . . . pulled out of Albuquerque, prayin' I wasn't late . . . down the Rio Grande . . . "

Great beat and dance-ability!

Peter

This is not really a road song, but for me in a way it is. You see, I drive down to Florida a lot. Every time I pass Micanopy on I-75 or go through Okeechobee or go through Osceola County I think of this song. In fact I am writing this while sitting on Okeechobee Rd. (FL70) at Fort Pierce. It's also one I play when criss crossing Florida on Alligator Alley or the Tamiami Trail. It's John Anderson's great song, Seminole Wind. I particularly like the fiddle made to sound like a haunting Indian flute at the intro and end.

That is a perfectly fine road song, Don, and a great tune! I will give it a good listen when we are back home. Right now we are OTRA upstate for a wedding, and folks are sleeping nearby.

How about this Dylan number as a theme song for being On The Road Again? Yup, just a bunch of rollin' stones!

Oh, the tellin' takes me back . . . [am I paraphrasing U. Utah Phillips from another song? ]

Have a good weekend, all.

Peter

I adore this Norwegian industrial band https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeromancer I'm a great fan of electronic genre in music so these guys are the best for me

Here's one of my favourite their songs, I rather often listen to it on the road

Thanks for Road Runner, TravlinMan, a classic for sure.

Get the keys ready, fill the tanks, and head out for the desert -- here is a great beat for mobilating toward the Southwest, if you are going to bypass Nate!

Safe travels.

Peter

Just noticed that California Dreamin' by the Mamas and Papas has only been mentioned here, without being posted.

"All the leaves are brown, and the sky is grey"

Ah . . . the year 1965 . . .
. . . seems like yesterDAY!

Yee ha!

Cheers,

Peter

PS -- The sound is good in this "live performance" on early television, due to the lip-synching video over the LP audio.

Great pick peter...a standard on the travel play list. Mama Cass had a great voice and John Phillips..well how to you say Monterrey Pop 67. Great harmonies and I believe inspiration to many that followed...Byrds...CSNY Buffalo Springfield to name a few. Much cross pollination.

Departure date 10-4-2017 and news of the passing of another great artist still fresh. We turned N on I-5 to start our (about) 3 week loop thru WA, ID and OR and I looked at my wife…how about some tunes to kick off this road trip. How about we listen to the radio until Corvallis where we’ll lose KRVM. Works for me…91.9 it is…just as Tom breaks into… “Into the Great Wide Open”. RIP Tom Petty, thanks for sharing your wonderful talents.

The first night on the road we stopped in Maryhill, WA. It was a great spot fronting the Columbia. Ship traffic heads up as far as Lewiston. We like to pick up local radio (in this instance tri-cities area of WA) and dialed in some country music. First two songs were…

Mix a Drink (Chris Jansen)

followed
10 Rounds with Jose Cuero by George Straight I thought but couldn’t find that

Well the cocktail hour had already started but no matter…Gotta love that country music.

Thanks Bob for the great tunes and videos! Glad you had a good trip -- the photos in the other thread are fine indeed. Listening to local radio is a great way to get the flavor of each new location! When we take local roads, we often see billboards, or signs on grain elevators etc., announcing the local radio. Often these are low-power AM stations, so the range is limited. After we tune in, the signal often fades in as little as 5-10 miles, at which time we dial in another spot.

Here is another GS tune with a road flavor.
