Amazing, right? Funny how -- after the introduction as he walks over to the mic -- his posture and "bearing" are exactly the same as when he grew into a man. We are shaped and rough-hewn at an early age . . .

Thanks for the great video!

Peter

PS -- Gonna post a more somber number, which rolled out of our iTunes mix this morning, from Ricky and Sharon White on the OTRA II thread.

How about a subway train travel song? This just plain swings.

If we're doing urban travel rather than wide open highways, how about some Manhattan Transfer…

"Offbeat of Avenues"

and "On the Boulevard"

Crappy video, but great song!

and "On the Sunny Side of the Street."

I'll admit these aren't my FAVORITE Manhattan Transfer songs, but nobody harmonizes like they do!

Great tunes, guys. Thanks! That A train is definitely swingin' on down the tracks, and the MP's vocals are amazing, just as billed. Nice wider-scope also, for the "other road" songs theme!

The following performance from Jerry Douglas and Chris Eldridge was on Prairie Home Companion last night, a re-run from 5/20/17. Things In Life . . .

"Look up, look down this lonesome road
Hang down your head and cry
For we often lose some things in life
That make us wonder why"

Great bluegrass classic with a drivin' beat. Fine fine harmonies by the PHC crew incl. Chris Thiele the new host who replaced Garrison Keillor. And Jerry Douglas can sure pik thaht thang!

Turn up the volume and drive drive drive . . .

Yee Hah!

Cheers,

Peter

PS -- The next tune on YouTube is from 2/11/17 -- Don't Think Twice, It's Alright. Nice! What a band Chris collects every week. Even the reruns are great . . .

Yes sirree! Great posts by all. Let us know what groups you find in the Mountain View area, and I will try to find videos or sound files for them.

Peter

PS -- Check out Chris Thiele's mandolin solo in Kansas City in Post #313. [time stamp 2:08]

What inspired pickin'!

Peter thanks for that Marcus Mumford number, I'll have to research him a bit more, I really like that sound. Protagonist that TMT cover of Sunny Side of the Street reminds me of the album recorder in 1959 on the then newly created Verve label. It was titled "Sonny Side Up" and featured Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Stitt and Sonny Rollins and included On the Sunny Side of the Street. I have a CD copy in my collection.

Listening to Sirius Real Jazz yesterday I happened upon this recording of Basin Street Blues by Wynton Marsalis and Willie Nelson. I remember when Willie included his cover of it on his 1978 Standards album Stardust. I really like it when masters of different genres get together for a duet. One of my favorites of this style is when Buck Owens and Ringo Starr got together and recorded Act Naturally. Here's the Basin Street Blues cover

Do we have any Delbert McClinton fans? Not sure how many here travel South of the US border but only living about an hour from it we do a fair amount of Mexico travel, although never towing anything more than boats and beach vehicles. We stay away from the touristy spots and instead camp in a remote fishing village, some stay in a rock house but most camp on the deserted 10.5 mile long pristine white sand beach.

Count me as one. I own everything he has ever recorded...Seen him many times in concert. He taught John Lennon how to play the harmonica and played the harmonica intro on Bruce Channel"s "Hey Baby" in 1961...pretty good musical resume...

Just ran across this. I'll use Dionne Warwick's Do You Know the Way to San Jose as an excuse to post it.

Thanks Don what a trip down memory lane! Great tunes by everyone.

Brian your south of the border retreat sounds real nice. Marcus is also part of Mumford and Sons, and their "I Will Wait" is a great fast number. Will post later.

Thanks,

Peter

But first another Tanya Savory tune -- 40, 80 or 10. Nancy Griffiths had a hit with this I think, but can't find it on YouTube. Nice lyrics IMO!

"Well I'm sitting on the floor on a July Sunday
Looking at a map of this old country
Picking out the roads to go from, shore to shore
I've been on 40, 80 and 10 just to see the sky and to feel the wind
But now I only think of them as a means to your door."

Good road beat . . . hear the concrete expansion joints clickin' by?

Yee hah!

Peter

PS -- Another TS tune just posted on the OTRA II thread -- Reason Enough.
