Thanks Bob, Louisiana Lady is a new one to me ( . . . or at least it had disappeared into the fog of the 60's . . . ), and a winner!
Remember the old saying?

From the LA group Dawes comes this fast number "From A Window Seat" with a great driving beat. Picture listening to this song while "flying" down the Interstate at speed . . .
On The Road Again -- yes!

I'm at work and can't set up any links.
CCR's "Sweet Hitchhiker"
Now for something harder to find - and not really a road song but you'll see why I'm talking about it... There is this folk singer named Vance Gilbert (great voice and funnier than nearly any comedian you'll ever see) on his latest CD called "Bad Dog Buffet". he does a tongue in cheek song called "Holiday Employment" that is about Rudolph looking for a job....Yes that Rudolph of red nosed reindeer fame! Of course the word Rudolph is never mentioned but you figure it out.... Seem that Rudolph is looking for holiday employment (Doh!!!!) and after the season he is heading to Florida where his, "...cousin has an airstream in his yard!"

We watched Lonesome Dove again over the Thanksgiving weekend. A different kind of "on the road" for sure, but moving nonetheless in my opinion.
So much leave-taking it is hard to know where to start, but the scene when Gus leaves Laurie and Claire to head off to Montana with Capt. Call captures the essence of things . . .
When I hear the theme song, I want to hitch up the silver prairie wagon and head West!
From Part 3 of the TV mini-series at time stamp 1:16:00 -- [click on link on top to get to full-frame etc. options] --
Gus: "I'd like to see at least one more place that ain't settled before I take up the rockin' chair!"
Amen to that.
Well worth watching from the beginning of Part 1 right through Capt. Call's return to Lonesome Dove in Part 4.

Speaking of hitchin' up the silver prairie wagon and headin' West, how about this fast oldie from The Rivieras -- California Sun!
And of course the Mama and Papa of all California road trip songs!

A good OTRA beat in "Desert Wind" from Salamander Crossing, an earlier incarnation of Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem mentioned on the 20-footer thread. They play lots of New England venues.

So Bob’s link to Red Foley (Thanks Bob) reminded me of Hot Rod Lincoln by the Commander.
And for all those diesel TV owners out there with their AS in tow… ; )
Peter interesting your Mama’s and the Papa’s link in consideration of the earlier 67 Monterey Pop’s festival link. I’ve read that at Monterey Pop was John Phillips, let’s say, heavily involved in the bookings. This is a great album and Momma Cass had a great presence and voice, California Dreaming is like Good Vibrations of the Beach Boys. Hard not to sing along when you have surfing and the California beaches on your mind.
Nice Riviera’s link…reminds me of the Ventures and my intro to surfing at Pleasure Point, Santa Cruz, CA
walk don't run....timeless

Great tunes, thanks Bob! Momma Hated Diesels is a new one to me, but classic country lyrics . . .
Surfed Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz a couple of times . . . Plus a break north of Half Moon Bay whose name I don't recall, but mostly in North San Diego County and Baja.
Tom Wolfe's The Pump House Gang first appeared in The NY Herald Tribune Sunday Magazine (RIP), and after a page my mind was made up -- California Here I Come! 1966-ish?
When I first rode Windansea and looked up at THAT pump house years later, I thought surely I had arrived in Heaven . . .
Good memories from that era "for sure" . . .

[Surfed Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz a couple of times . . . Plus a break north of Half Moon Bay whose name I don't recall, but mostly in North San Diego County and Baja] From the East Bay area, we would either go to Santa Cruz via San Jose & 17 and if the surf was flat head north to Pacifica. Davenport breaks in those days were private and Mavericks without tow-in wasn’t surfable much less on the maps…not that I would even consider surfing there. Just to change things up there times it was over the Bay Bridge to Pacifica and south to SC if the Pacifica surf was flat. I still have my board but suspect that I’m too old for the design and length. Yes the Pump House…certainly the PH Gangs private territory in those days.
[Good memories from that era "for sure" . . .] …you betchya

So sort of a shutout for our local FM station KRVM Home (Keep Real Variety in Music) available as an online stream.
Not long ago Peter mentioned the 60’s [Remember the old saying? "If you remember the 60's you weren't there!] Eugene seems to remember it well as it’s a town that does remember the 60’s & and celebrates & frames it’s fame in the form of (Ken) Kesey Square as the focal point of downtown, The Oregon Country Fare and Cosmic Pizza that just celebrated to 60th Birthday of the SF Acid Tests including a Jerry Garcia Birthday Band playing to a packed house. Animal House came later.
Listening to KRVM this morning, the DJ played some live Carlos from ’68 with piano) that at first I thought as a lead into “Low Spark/Spencer Davis”, then went on to play some Yardbirds & Paul Butterflied, before the “Country Classics “ program @ 9 a.m. out Sat morning favorite. If you like to be exposed to a real variety in music…take a listen. They do a great job.
Gathering up the Christmas music, I saw a favorite for sharing
The Pointer Sisters…a great Christmas opener.

Thanks Bob, funny I almost moved to Eugene in the late 70's, as I had a good job offer there, and lots of friends from all over the country had settled there. If the CalDream17 trip comes to fruition late next fall, I plan to catch up with everyone from San Diego to Seattle.

OK let's pick up the pace with the Sultans of Swing from 1978 -- a young Dire Straights!
See the landscape going by quickly with the Airstream in the rear-view mirror?
The Rockies on the horizon in the distance?
CalDream16/17 . . .
Whooshhhh !
