But first another Tanya Savory tune -- 40, 80 or 10. Nancy Griffiths had a hit with this I think, but can't find it on YouTube. Nice lyrics IMO!
"Well I'm sitting on the floor on a July Sunday
Looking at a map of this old country
Picking out the roads to go from, shore to shore
I've been on 40, 80 and 10 just to see the sky and to feel the wind
But now I only think of them as a means to your door."
Good road beat . . . hear the concrete expansion joints clickin' by?
Yee hah!
Peter
PS -- Another TS tune just posted on the OTRA II thread -- Reason Enough.

I just have to ask...You do know that's not Tracy Chapman right? Somewhat of a deceiving title on that You Tube. While I am normally a big fan of covers I have mixed feelings about that one.
How about rolling down the interstate with the Bastard Sons?

Yes, I do know that it's a cover of a Tracy Chapman song. That's what I get for being careless and copying the wrong link…
Here's the right one. Apologies to all.

Nice!
PS -- The next song is nice too IMO -- All That Glitters Is Not Gold -- but it's a sad one, of sorts . . .

I spent most of my formative years in Oklahoma after my dad retired from the air force. I can say two things about the state:
1 - It's better to be from Oklahoma than in Oklahoma (at least the dry, dusty, stark western half— green, wooded eastern Oklahoma ain't as bad);
2 - The reason God made Oklahoma was to keep Texas and Kansas from bumping into each other.

Oklahoma is so flat, you can stand on one beer can and see Chicago. You can stand on two beer cans and see the back of your head!

Thanks Janet, a new performer to me and a great tune!
"Pitch black, pavement, headlights
Sore back, stale scent, midnight
Car in front
License pale blue
Closin' in on home, Lucky you
"Truck stop, caffeine, 'phone call
Eavesdrop, laughing, long haul
Mileage signs
Makin' believe
Progress is made, Lucky me"
Nice!

Several years ago my band did a totally unauthorized rewrite of this tune with some airstream lyrics substituted:
Pitch black, pavement, headlights
Silver trailer in sight
Tradewind in front, License pale blue
Caravan, Lucky you
Truck stop, caffeine, 'phone call
Eavesdrop, laughing, long haul
Mileage signs, Makin' believe
Camping ahead, Lucky me
Drivin' my way under bridges and clouds
Towing my silvery dream
Deliver me safe I am saying out loud
Caravan in my shiny Airstream Semis, new Fords, old bugs
Blue sky, billboard, Wall Drug
White box in front, Of a house with a view
Towing a ‘Stream, Lucky you
Bridge: Free lane, yield right of way
Caution: Bambi merging
As the line grows close
Slowly, oh, exit only
To the next Rally
A-lu -mi -num - Home Road crew, Chi-town, rainstorm
Toll booth, eyes on 94
Oasis, part of the scene
Campground in sight, Lucky me
----
There's something about the original tune that just hits me right. You can almost feel the seams in the concrete ribbon of road under your tires and the "I've been in the car a little too long and am getting funky" vibe to the lyrics is spot on.

No need for apologies, and thanks for bringing that song up. She is a wonderful artist. Give Me One Reason was another one and if you haven't heard the live version with Eric Clapton recorded in Washington DC in 1998 you owe it to yourself. Although not really a road song but who's keeping track?

All this talk about Oklahoma brings to mind the song Tulsa Time made famous by Don Williams but I wonder how many know the original writer/artist of the tune?

Gimme One Reason fits the genre well enough IMO! Nice lyrics.
"Give me one reason to stay here
And I'll turn right back around
Give me one reason to stay here
And I'll turn right back around
Said I don't want leave you lonely
You got to make me change my mind."
Maybe consider this to be Road Trip Fuel, or am I being fuelish?
Great down home version of Tulsa Time too. Thanks.

Another good Steve Winwood number. This one makes me want to pat the accellerator. Here's Cross Roads.

Thanks Don, great song. Brings back memories. Here's a live recording of another early Clapton classic. Fits the bill:
Thinkin' bout the times you drove in my car............
