Thanks Brian, what a talent he was, leaving us at too young an age! A cover of his Poncho and Lefty is on the OTRA II thread.
Hope everyone had a good Fourth. From this camper's perspective, glad to have the holiday winding up this coming weekend so that Hither Hills SP will maybe have some sites available next week!
Cheers,
Peter

Here's a few more, the first is a Del Reeves tune and the cover is by Commander Cody, I used to know a local band here in Tucson that did a great and rowdy cover of this one.
The second is a great Steve Earle number that really rolls along
Lastly is a great old travelling song by the late Hoyt Axton, I remember cruising the interstates while blasting this one in my 69 Olds 442 convertible. As a side note Hoyt was actually a tour bus driver in his younger days.

Speaking of Steve Earle who can argue with this?

This one is not a real road song, but a nice little beat to move you on down the road. Besides, my late wife's name was Annie, and I like it.

Thanks Don, that is a perfect road song in my opinion!
Dreamboat Annie
"Heading out this morning into the sun
Riding on the diamond waves, little darlin' one."
And as you said a great beat. Also a really nice guitar intro!
I have posted plenty of songs here just for the beat, which often reminds me of flying down the road, with the tires hitting the expansion joints on the concrete highways, or like a train's wheels hitting the gaps between sections of rail. Clickety-clack, clickety-clack . . .
Sorry for your loss.
Thanks again for the two songs,
Peter
PS -- Here is a favorite with a great beat (which may be a repeat here):

You're right, Peter. I could close my eyes and hear the tires on the expansion joints.
I've always thought of Dreamboat Annie as a boating song. My other recreational love is boating, so you can see how I came to that conclusion. However, I named my little Airstream Little Darlin'. You can probably guess where I got that name. So, I guess it's a road song too.
I think Ann Wilson had one of the nicest, clearest voices in the business. Those sisters could really sing. Later Ann reminded me of Cass Elliot who also had a great voice.
Thanks for your nice thought. I lost my wife nearly 11 years ago. So it's been awhile. As they say life goes on.

Oh boy, have I got a good beat road song for you!
One of my favorite groups, which disbanded years ago unfortunately.
Yee hah!
PS -- Their "Desert Wind" and "Wheels" should also be available on YouTube after this song finishes. Also a great beat.
Most of them are now in the group Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem, but their style is different:

from the 20 footers thread....
[I can relate to the invasion of the tourists, as our area is mobbed.
[BTW that link is NG, seems like their server may be swamped. Any good music you can go to and then escape back home?
PS -- Edit -- The link is back and here is the line-up -- wow!: http://www.oregoncountryfair.org/the-event/2017-lineup/ ]

[Tourists] I can only imagine LI on a warm weekend. Like the Sonoma Coast, it’s all about Sunday afternoon thru Friday morning in the summer. As for EUG and the OCF, not really tourists…this isn’t your gramma's country fair. Depending on your preference, a huge different being up wind vs. down wind. After all Ken Kesey is the favorite son of EUG and the Grateful Dead was the house band for UofO.
The OCF is basically a flash back to the 70’s when the Dead played 3 shows to fund the land acquisition. I’d guess a 100 acres +/- on the other side of Fern Ridge Lake. Owned by OCF as a nonprofit. EUG is normally summer of love counter culture as it gets but the area swells with converted buses (think Further…attached) and VW micro’s loaded with deadheads and the grandchildren of deadheads.
The site is private and no drive in parking and accessible only by county transit bus from EUG. No listening from the fence line.
The music is awesome with a number of stages offering up a variety of music. As you said, quite the lineup. KRVM, the local FM station has the Blue Moon (as in Beer I presume) stage this year and streams live from the fair on line and on the local FM Bandwidth. I presume other stages have similar setups with other stations. You should check out their website ( krvm.org) as they really offer a great range of music, not just the fair.
I have to research but the local Eugene Weekly had good write-ups on Whiskey Shivers

& chris robinson brotherhood

WS on the first pass sounds pretty good.

OMG . . .
Wow that takes me back! Great photo gallery at your link at the bottom. Reminds me of the Rennaisance Pleasure Faires that used to happen south of Sonoma in the 70's if I recall correctly. Would have to start a new topic to talk about that era, eh?
The bus "Further" prompts another great tune from Taj Mahal to go along with your "Six Days On The Road" in Post #205.
"Amen" to the untold stories . . .
Thanks again Bob for a great post! Yes Whiskey Shivers works for me . . . the video montage is well done too . . .
Peter
PS -- The next tune on YouTube is "Ain't Gwine To Whistle Dixie." Great instrumental like a mellow road song. Hmmmm . . . "mellow" -- how many times was that word used in the 60's?

Thanks!
The great thing about old photos is that the memories are just as vibrant. Heck maybe they are even getting stronger!

Bob, this is a great album. So when she came to town a few year ago with Steve Martin as an opener (on his Rare Bird tour) we grabbed a couple of tix. Martin was a home run and she was a snore....couldn't get it out of 1st gear. So different than the work with Knophler. Very disappointing.

Heard this Zac Brown tune on TV last night -- great beat! -- hear the concrete highway expansion joints "clicking" by?
"Where the wind blows . . . "
Yee hah!

Good one thanks!
"Be thankful you're livin'
Drink up and go home!"
Amen.
Nice pickin' . . .
Thanks again for the tune. As you head into bluegrass territory feel free to post any new discoveries you make!
Peter
PS -- Nice version of Been All Around This World:
PS2 -- There is also an OTRA II Music thread intended for the more somber side of life -- some might say morose -- with songs about . . . . well start at the beginning I guess . . . life . . .
The first tune "May I Suggest" by Susan Werner sets the tone . . . amazing lyrics IMO. Red Molly does a great version too.
