Also, a reserve higher than $4,500. Seems spendy to me for a trailer with no appliances and needing what appears to be a good bit of work. But I don't know Bambis!

Something about the Bambi II has never appealed to me as much as the original Bambi. It's a foot longer, more like the Caravel (which obviously I am a big fan of), and the layout is more caravel-like. This one needs a bit of work, and has some dings on the outside. I like the three windows down the side though.

As the owner of this trailer I'd just like to take a moment to respond.

I've yet to find any published valuation standard for vintage airstreams; as such I feel that it's all about what it's worth to you. That being said I'm glad to see that you all have an opinion. I didn't hide anything about the condition of this trailer or rip anybody off, and I don't appreciate the fact that you flamed me or my e-bay sale here. I have always felt that streamers were a different sort, the kind of person to see the good in any situation, but the more of this kind of thing that I see on the boards here the less tightly I hold that opinion.

To set the record straight regarding my beloved little trailer:

Every airstream has a history, and some of them have war wounds to show for it, if I wanted a trailer without a little patina I'd buy a new one. The dents you all got so worried about do not compromise the structure of the trailer, nor do they allow weather in.

There is not nor was there ever any duct tape on the windows.

As an update I've started the renovation on this trailer and discovered a few things that even I was too critical of when placing the e-bay ad.

The LP system was intact and in good condition
All plumbing was intact and in good condition
No rot whatsoever in the floor

The long and the short of this is that with about $3000 in renovations and new appliances this trailer will be ready for a polishing and worth considerably more than the E-Bay price plus the renovation costs.

As to my increase on the starting bid. All I did was remove the reserve by making the starting bid what I wanted to get out of the trailer.

Do you sit around in your home town and wish that your neighbors would sell their homes for less? Wouldn't this be counterintuitive to rising property value? I think you should all think about what your airstream is worth to you, before you open your mouth about someone elses.

It appeared to be duct tape around the windows in the photos to me. Sorry for the mistake. But as far as the value, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay, and apparently that is less than your opening bid.

If you were going to purchase a used car and it had a big dent in it, that would certainly affect the value you would be willing to pay and a big dent in an Airstream is much more expensive to repair than a dent of equal size in a car...ask me how I know...so this one really affects the value of your trailer. If you are selling your house and it has major defects, you can not expect to receive top dollar. Your opening bids indicate that you expect to get the same price as an average condition Bambi II just because someone with a mint condition one got that price for theirs...very unrealistic.

I understand the difficulty in pricing used Airstreams. Dealers and insurance companies just don't understand the value of used Airstreams and because the value is subjective to condition, which varies widely, there is no real published used Airstream buyers guide out there for the really vintage Airstreams. You might look at this web site to help you in realistically pricing your trailer: Price vs. Condition - Airstream Values

In the table on this web site, your trailer would fall into the "As Found" condition since it has no appliances, etc. Therefore the value would be between $1100-2500. The dent will cost a minimum of $1,100 to fix so you are automatically in the low end of the range in an experienced bidder's opinion. You can see why your opening bid was so derided. I'm sure your trailer is worth much more than that to you; I'm sure it would be to me. But when you sell something on e-bay, you have to remove the sentiment and fond memories that the object has for you and remember that it is just something you are "trying to get rid of" on e-bay. Harsh sentiments, but that is the way it is.

Good luck, and please understand why your minimum bid was so unrealistic and that is why it was subject to jest on this web site. When you put something out in public, especially cyber space, you are opening yourself up to public scrutiny and sometimes it isn't as pretty as you'd like for it to be.

There might be someone out there that is willing to pay the asking price for the Bambi II. I'm still looking for my A/S - I haven't found a SINGLE one yet! Who know what I might pay if it showed up tonight on e-bay or anywhere else??? I know what a new one goes for - I might pay a lot more for it that would anyone else........the beauty of an auction! You are 100% correct. My thread is only to recommend what one might realistically expect on e-bay. Perhaps you should get in touch with the OP. The two of you might be able to work something out.
