Thumbs up DID IT! Passed the five gallon mark!

As of this morning I am below the 40 lb loss goal I had set after Christmas! I encourage anyone thinking about doing this to go ahead and do it. Make sure your plan is good, that your metrics work, and set sail. I'm not going to lie and say it isn't work, and some days are hard, but the results are very much worth it. I don't hate mirrors as much and feel better.
Time to make breakfast- oatmeal with banana (225 calories of delicious) and get on with the day.

Congratulations! That's how I think of 40 pounds of weight, in terms of gallons of water. Carrying around a big five-gallon (or more) water jug 24/7 is a burden.

Lifestyle change isn't easy, but it's adaptable over time and well worth it.

I agree, this is totally worth the work! And it's not really that hard. I'm actually enjoying the exercise, and I think meals are simpler when you are trying to incorporate a lot of vegetables in them - there's just more chopping! I'm just over 30lbs down, and I don't think I've felt a bit deprived as a result of my new eating habits. If I want chocolate, I just have a small piece of chocolate. Nothing is off limits, but everything counts, and portions really matter. I feel like I've made changes I can stick with for the rest of my life.

The hardest part for me is that while metabolism slows down as we age and I can't do as much physical labor as I used to, I love good food just as much. My wife is an excellent cook and that increases the problem. The results of these unfair problems started showing up in my late 50's. I still like to eat like a teenager, but I eat lots and lots of veggies and fruit, organic food, avoid processed foods, exercise regularly, however, nevertheless, I am bigger than I used to be.

The advantage to this is safety. If attacked by some young person, I can throw myself at them and crush them.

Rodney, congratulations. I remember a number of long happy hours with you which resulted in lots of calories, but I guess it was ok because food was forgotten at times. Traveling may increase calories because healthy eating requires more preparation and sometimes that is just hard to do.

Good times indeed! Another up side for me is I will be able to indulge when those opportunities come around again. )

50 lbs! Go pick up a bag of chicken feed and marvel at all that weight you used to carry around! I'll bet you're feeling great!

I'm 42lbs down, with a ways to go, but I can't believe how much easier it is to do everything

Your new lifestyle is paying off! Don't you feel many years younger? I've kept off 40 pounds for seven months now. That 22 percent of extra body weight on my frame finally became too much of a burden to carry. My new habits have taken hold -- regular activity and basically eating how my grandparents ate before industrial food took over. My life has changed.

That pretty much sums up what I've been doing. Seems like this year I know so many people who are losing weight or have lost it and are keeping it off - more than ever before. It's just great, and inspiring to know it's possible, and it's not that hard. It's made my life better in every way.

Good for both of you. If you miss the pounds, I have some I can send you.
