Back on topic...?

Nobody needs a hot water heater!!!
We maybe didn't need one, but we had TWO!

When I was growing up in St. Pete, our house still had the original solar water heat from 1929. A natural gas water heater was added to the system at some point. And then an electric water heater was added.

That adds up to one cold water heater and two hot water heaters! Maybe I should mention it was a 6,000 sq. ft. house with 8 people living in it, counting the grandfathers. We needed a lot of hot water.

oh please, norbert....

.... if by 'Democrat' you mean the newspaper that has endorsed every Republican gubernatorial candidate in my lifetime (and that includes the one who who was just indicted), then yes. The newspaper-as-liberal-rag is an urban legend, at least as far as the large moneymakers go. They're all run by rich, conservative white guys and staffed by comfortably middle-class white folk who are more concerned about their careers and their children's college fund than anything else.

It's been refreshing today to read people's notes, beginning with the "hot water" redundancy, which I had fallen prey to myself. I try to be as precise in my spoken English as in my written, but we always have something to learn, or to relearn. Even in the news business, it's surprising how uncurious (uh-oh.... incurious?) and sheltered young people can be. I'm always hammering the recent college grads to "Read your own damn newspaper and then read everything else you can get your hands on!" but it never fails: Every novice obituary writer starts out by "interning" the poor dearly departed rather than "interring." I've only recently figured out myself that it's a lifelong struggle to stay literate... my reading habits tend toward gardening and building books as an adult, and I think my vocabulary is suffering lately.

Actually, the scientific term is the Coriolis effect, and it has no influence on how water swirls in a bathtub, toilet, or basin.

See http://www.snopes.com/science/coriolis.htm

Please, let's not have a middle school teacher spreading bad science. We wouldn't want her to warp the children's tiny little brains.

So much free time and this is what you do?

You, all of you, evidently have WAY to much free time on your hands so......

In the interest of preserving a few brain cells, perfectly good college educations and your dignity, I suggest you all come by and apply yourselves (and your assorted skills) to my ongoing Argosy rehab. No talking will be tolerated!

Not yeti t.c.l. -- the inbred Stearns County Syndrome breeds the word that will occur in the spring -- when we look forward to our lakes, our lawns, and our black tanks doing the unthaw thang.

A delightful thing, unthawing, as it will be 30 below 0° in Sterns County tonight without the windchill.
My MIL lives in Sterns County, wouldn't you know it has the highest female life expectancy in the US.

I seem to have missed when the keg was tapped....

Is this an open party, or is an invitation required? I to, am awiating the big thaw that is to come in the spring.

Am I even close to correct in any of this, or will I wake up with a hangover and hope I didn't make a fool of my self??????

Also, why is a "Blackwater" tank white?????

Found this little gem in my In box.

"till has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled (sic)..."

Entitled? This thread is entitled to nothing. It is titled "Nobody needs a hot water heater!!!"

I hope this was built into the software, and not added by our esteemed moderators.
