No VW tow vehicle here...BMW to the task
This is for the VW owners on the Wally's Bubble thread.
When you have a tough tow to make, use a BMW!

Another engineering disaster.

Hmmm, then perhaps I CAN someday realize my dream of towing a vintage Overlander with a '65 Mustang!

A regional RV dealer included this image in their ad last weekend:
I'd really have ya going if I photoshopped out the stabilizers.

Do people really tow boats behind their trailers? Is that even legal?

In many states it is. However, those are mostly western states. In the southeast you can only tow one trailer behind a non-commercial vehicle, but, you do see it on the southeast interstates especially snowbirds heading down to Florida for the winter and back in the spring.

1956 and Wally's Isetta
On the European Caravan in 1956 Wally purchased an Isetta in Munich.
I drove the Isetta for 4 months in Europe. Wally used it occassionally if he needed to check out a camp site, a road, or a town's downtown area. He would hop in and tell me where he wanted to go. At our campsites Wally would take the Isetta out for short road hops to see this and that.
The story gets better.
I may not be the first, but considering the year 1956, I may have been the first Isetta driver to go from the Brooklyn docks to Los Angeles. At an average of 40 mph and a top speed of 50 mph...what a continental crossing.
In 1958 Wally gave me the Isetta to use as my go to school car.
It was a great little motorcycle looking for an automotive body.
The pictures shows Wally's Isetta at the 1956 Airstream Palm Springs Rally, with my Mother, and me.

The only thing I don't understand is why the Germans think the best line of defense in a head on collision should be your knees: VW Vanwagon and Isettas.

I remember asking my dad a similar question along the same lines, IRT "the bus", and having nothing in front. His attitude was "{shrug} what's the difference? in a head on, its either your own engine on your lap, or the other guy's engine on your lap".
this, before the days of "crumple zones" and the like. Back then, after a car was in such an accident, they'd just hose off the dash, and sell it to the next guy.

A few years ago, saw a guy towing a HUGE fifth wheel towing a Jeep Wrangler with big knobby tires towing towing a pair of wave runners.
I can't even imagine the sway.

Hummm.. reminds me of the famous American philosopher, F. Gump, who says... "Stupid is as stupid does".
Imagine the sway going on in his head!

Thanks for the memorys. Isetta was very popular when I was going to college. Along with Nash Metropolitians and Allstate scooters , I think they were Italian.

We have neighbours, former Albertans, who own a truck camper solely for fishing trips because they can't tow their aluminum fishing boat (which can't be anymore than 800 lbs including motor and trailer) behind their 5th wheel in this province.
I believe that in many jurisdictions, the "tow trailer" must be a fifth wheel type.

In Arizona it is legal if the trailer is a 5th wheel and the total length is 65 feet or less. People can ride in the 5th wheel and the max speed limit is 75 MPH.

Yes. It's only legal in Minnesota if the trailer is a 5th wheel. Let's see 'em try to launch the boat at a ramp though!

How about the gas tank in the original Beetles. Wait -- that's wrong. Spare tire. Then gas tank.
